No Wii HD is something Pachter coined. It would be a Wii with HD and better graphics. A Wii for the hardcore. The Wii HD would be like a new model and not a totally new console. The Wii and Wii HD would exist side by side.

This is a successor not just a HD.

The Wii is the higest selling Nintendo console ever, but the third parties hate it. So do you keep the brand because of the previous sales or remove it to put third parties at ease? I say keep it for the customer is king not some whiny ass punk developer. Unless ofcourse you find even a better name.

I'm rooting for Nintendo Wii-Wii.

I don't think Wii is an "expired" brand (see the DS, people obviously don't still play Brain Training and Nintendogs, and new software did slow down for it as well, but it retains its brand value and is reused for the 3DS), I just don't think there's a good way to keep the name. Wii 2 Super Wii or whatever doesn't have a good ring to it. 3DS worked out but I don't see how Wii can work out similarly. They need to come up with a different catchy name and brand. Anyway, I choose not to believe any of the details since there were similar crazy rumours for the Wii. Some were close in hindsight but only by chance and you couldn't guess at the time.

Graphically I'd be satisfied if it could run the current "HD" games at 1080p and 60 fps (maybe a consistent 30 for titles like Crysis 2 that perform badly on PS360 & any other games that try to push better than current visuals or physics or whatever out of the console). Assuming they're going for graphics prowess at all, they may not for all I know. Such a move would certainly force MS and Sony to make their next systems significantly more powerful if the headstart helps Nintendo (it may not do that much, see the Dreamcast) which would make others happy too. If Wii 2 is somewhat more powerful than current systems to achieve the performance I'm hoping for then I think anything less than a gigantic increase in specs for PS4 and NeXtBox won't make the visual difference obvious for most. Games could of course do a lot more under the hood but it just wouldn't be so apparent to the end user. They'd just see similarly detailed and shiny characters and environments and effects. A HDTV also won't be easily replaced with a HigherDTV so they can't bet on a higher resolution.

TBH the power of Wii 2 doesn't really turn me on. I have an HD console and I can buy 3rd party games for it already. The power will please 3rd parties who want to port games and maximise revenue in the easiest way. When I think of Nintendo games with HD graphics the only title that I can think of that would benefit greatly would be Metroid Prime. I'm happy with the stylised designs of Mario and Link with the current level of graphics. I'm much more interested in what the new hook will be with Wii Too.

Some key inside sources have told me that Nintendo has moved Pikmin 3 from the original Wii to their new console, which is currently being codenamed, “Project Cafe”. I have been told that this new Pikmin game will indeed be at E3 in video form. When Pikmin 3 was in development, a decision was made that the boosted graphics from the next Nintendo console would add an extra benefit to create more realistic grass, dirt, mud, rocks, and water in the game. The extra graphics horsepower would allow little extra environment details that couldn’t be done on the original Wii. People who have seen the game have told me that it looks drop dead gorgeous.

Another thing I’ve been told is that Nintendo is trying to build a better relationship with Rockstar Games to get them to throw major support on the next Nintendo console. They are trying to persuade Rockstar into believing that franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption can work on this next Nintendo console. From what I’m hearing, Nintendo realizes that Rockstar pulls a lot of weight with older gamers, and they would like to see Rockstar play a bigger key role to attract a key demographic. This isn’t unbelievable since Rockstar put Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars on the DS, and “Manhunt 2″ on the Wii.
