You should base your purchases on reviews and impressions not hype. I once made a Soul Calibur Legends thread and Namco promised it was made by the proper SC team and it would be amazing, the concept sounded cool. It turned out to be a turd. RE mercenaries turned out to be a turd and I was sort of watching that - if only to see what visuals the 3DS could push. I made hype threads for games like Monster Hunter tri but never bought it. Reviews are good but I find reading forum impressions help the most - I know some people hate gaf, but its a great source for impressions of games because there are a lot of passionate gamers. You even get passionate impressions on some niche games you rarely see coverage of. And especially import games too.
Are you asking me or Aspro? I played it a ton early on in the year, completed Batman AA, Assasins Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction and Halo Reach. Then I got to Fable 2 and I have like a mental block for months, I can't bring myself to play it.
For sure, watch it folks, you're not going to play it anyway.
Best thing to do is stop early and then inch into the stations. I hate the parts where you have to divert to avoid enemy trains and then you're basically sitting and waiting for the train to go through the detour, it feels like such a waste of time. I have been replaying Phantom Hourglass, it's good fun. The Ocean temple, you have to remember to make extensive notes and then on repeat visits you usually have a new item which gives you easy shortcuts.
You've just mentioned Zelda, Donkey Kong and Metroid Other M. But yeah for a gamer like you who has at least sampled some of - if not most of the good games worth getting I totally understand it when you say there is not much to look forward to on the system. For others I could reel off a list of 10 + games they could be playing but have avoided. So if they hypothetically said their wii was gathering dust, there is nothing to play this year I would say buy the damn games out already and play them.
As a european we've been pretty lucky, this year along with Zelda and Rhythm Heaven we have Last Story and Xenoblade to look foward too as well as Pandora's Tower - I'm also keeping an eye on these two new Namco games.
But even for someone like me who has dug to the bottom of the well and tried games like Cursed Mountain, there is still stuff I could get like recentely I picked up Sin and Punishment 2 and there are games like Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn or We Ski and Snowboard, or Tenchu, shit like that I haven't tried. And the best thing is that the poor selling market for hardcore wii games means you can pick all these games up cheap.
Why?
LOL
Did you watch the video in that link? You can attach the Wii U controller to a new zapper and it acts as like a mini hud and you can have Silent Scope arcade style functionality. It magnifies things you hover over on the Wii U screen.
Also imagine having the Aliens motion tracker on it.
Yeah many of those games you mentioned GG, I would not bother with no matter what console they were on. Just because a game is designed for the hardcore crowd, afterall, doesn't mean its a quality game. I think I told you this before, but avoid Tenchu like the plague....that game is flabby ass. Fire Emblem is great if you like Strategy RPG's, but the difficulty spike is ridiculous to the point of breaking the game halfway through.
I'm not the type to buy a type of game on any console just because it fits into the games I like....I mean with all the software today a game needs to have either an interesting concept that I really like if the game itself isn't the best, OR it needs to be one of the absolute best of the best out there in its genre, no matter what system its on.
As far as JRPG's go, I think Last Story and Xenoblade would hit both of those notes for me, which is why I'm fucking pissed that Nintendo is so lame right now.
Sub-text, lack of appreciation for Wii games/lack of good taste.
Yeah I've never been a fan of the Zapper, but with that controller attatched acting as an actual scope with an interface built onto it, that could be really badass if done right.
Yeah you and Vader steered me clear of Tenchu, but it's soooooooo ridiculously cheap now, like the price of a sandwich. I'm still not that interested but I could pick up Pikmin 2. Some people haven't played Bully or Okami so could pick up the best versions of those on Wii. Bully is one of my favourite games, ever. Anyhow some of the games designed for a hardcore crowd are good, Sin and Punishment 2 got tons of 9/10 and 10/10 reviews but its not my sort of game. Have you tried Endless Ocean 2 yet? I think you said you owned it. It's an adventure game with a story and quests and you can sink 60 hrs into it. I remember one of the reviews said that Arika had turned out an exemplar game on the same level of enjoyment as mario and zelda.
Endless Ocean 2 Cubed 3 review
9/10 "it has easily become one of the exemplar products on Wii, full stop"

But you just said that you would have DKCR, Skyward Sword and Metroid Other M to play this year - so if you hadn't have sold your wii already you could have had a decent time with those games for the rest of year - there are only like 6 months left. If you lived in europe you could add those rpgs to the list too.
It's a good game but Ubisoft limited it's scope. It should have been more like Oblivion with a semi-large open world and quests and characters and NPCs to actually interact with. And there was barely any story. Still good game though not the best, personally I think that Red Steel 2 should have just perfected what the first game was and it would have turned out more like Goldeneye. I can imagine playing the first red steel with the improvements of red steel 2, a solid frame rate, perfect controls - add to that explosive fun, gameplay and it could have been a winner. Instead they went left and cel-shaded it and mashed up a western with a samurai world.

So Black Rock studios is closing, developers of racing games. Remember Bizaare went under too?
There seems to be the notion that the market for racing games has bottomed out. What are your thoughts on this?
I gave up on traditional racing games after the PS2 generation ended because I felt there was not much difference in the genre - I dropped out of 1 on 1 fighters for the same reason.
Seems like the big franchises like NFS and Forza are still going, how did Gran Turismo do compared to the prior games?
What would it take for you to get interested in the genre again?
Do you remember experimental driving games like Stunt Driver or that Destruction Derby game?
Also, English trailer up in the non-gaming forum
Considering Colonial Marine is supposed to hit on the Wii U, Gearbox would be fucking mental to not do it.
I think part of the reason nobody cares about driving games anymore has a lot to do with games like GTA having fun driving mechanics built into a game you can do so much more with. Back in the day, many of my friends only played driving games because, well, that was pretty much the only games you could get a driving experience out of. That changed over the past 10 years. Same with Fighting games, to an extent. Of course you have your uber deep driving and fighting experiences with the best of each genre, but for the most part I think people would rather have these other kinds of games that give you a variety of experiences...not just the same thing over and over.
They need something fresh to be interesting these days. I mean I consider SSX a racing game, and its so much funner than just about every car game in the past 10 years. When Gran Turismo 1st came out it was incredible because of the realism and the scope of the game...nothing was like that. But what more can they do?
Zelda looks really nice in HD
Great points, I do very much like the driving in games like GTA. I guess I like a more freeform driving experience rather than being put onto a defined track and told to race a set of cars. Mostly I like just messing about with cool music in the background. Some of the newer driving games are going back to adding things like combat into them and it doesn't seem to be catching on. I'm curious to see how Rage blends vehicles and combat. Also, Halo - vehicles and combat, more variety and a freeform driving experience if you can call it driving.
GG the reason I sold my Wii was because it WOULD NOT PLAY METROID in the 1st place! I had one of those rare consoles that didn't like dual layered discs. So I planned on getting a new one, but then lost interest and now I have so much to play that I just don't know if I should bother when the Wii 2 is on the way.
Hell yeah Halo was one of those early hybrids too. Now you have stuff like Red Faction Guerilla, Ninja Gaiden and hardcore action fighting games....etc.
Nintendo were fixing those ones for free. You could have used a lens cleaner too.
Metroid Prime 1 too.
The detail there on a cube game.
This may sound crazy but after going thru 5 Xbox 360's I just did not feel like sneding another console in for repair....lol Plus, I wanted a black one.
Djokovic v Tsonga sounds like a women's match.
