It's out in Japan, I haven't really been paying attention. People are saying that EA didn't market SOTD at all.
I think that you need to consider all sorts of factors when saying a game has or hasn't done well, the reviews, the marketing, the ads, the sheer content - is it mass market etc. Seems really lazy to just say a game failed because its on a particular platfom. From what I saw of SOTD, the reviews were mixed, sort of like with Shattered Memories, some quite poor ones mixed with some good ones which make people wary. HD gaming is a fairly cut throat affair, you need to be AAA to sell well from the off - anything else is the kind of thing people pick up later at cheaper prices or ignore all together.
Of course the Nintendo audience got blamed...that shit has been going on since the Gamecube. But yet when something actually sells, like Resident Evil (because its true AAA stuff) not a mention is made of it.....and when something flops on the other consoles, like say Okami on PS2 or Alan Wake or something, its swept under the rug like some kind of oddity that is unexplainable by man.
As for Shinji Mikami....its becoming quite apparent he's never going to achieve the success he did at Capcom with Resident Evil, and Capcom is never going to achieve RE greatness again without him. Maybe its time to kiss and make up assholes. This is a perfect example of why the Japanese game industry has gone to shit; all the great designers leaving their AAA franchises and established companies to form smaller, niche companies that never reach the same status, while said former employers are left without their top talents and are forced to make B-level entries in AAA franchises.
It actually sold better than the Wii version in Japan. Not much though. It was still pretty much a bomb. The American release is due next month. I also susupect it will tank. The one thing it has going for it in the US is that it's launching around the time when nothing else is comming out.
Yeah it sold a little better than the Wii version in Japan but probably not enough given it had a much bigger marketing push with all the erotic shit and celebrity commercials and what not that Wii never got.
The optimist proclaims we live in the best of all possible worlds
while the pessimist fears this is true.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How long have we been waiting for a new Dungeon Master style dungeon crawl? Too long I say. Rescue might be just around the corner thanks to the new indie studio Almost Human Ltd. and their upcoming title Legend of Grimrock. The teaser trailer looks convincing enough. Sadly, it's also evidently in the early stages of development as they don't even have a features list they can make a promise over. On the other hand, being so early and looking this good is a very good thing, right?
In other news, 1C launched the first trailer for the Star Wolves 3 expandalone dubbed Ashes of Victory. Role playing space warfare with a techno soundtrack is fine by me. 1C promises an original story with multiple endings and a wide open universe. Let's hope the frame rate issues evident in the trailer don't indicate returning technical shortcomings. Oh, who am I kidding...
I also just discovered Oniken, some kind of 8bit Mega Man and Shinobi hybrid that could have given the former a run for its money had it been released during the same era. It's hard as nails and beautifully designed. The game's not complete but the beta release includes three full stages. This gameplay video shows it off nicely.
Hey, the Wii version wasn't totally abandoned. In Japan you got toilet paper as a pre-order bonus after all.
Yeah, but that failed, because Travis Touchdown does not take shit from anyone.
Truth be told I think the former Clover devs have largely underperformed this gen. Even the game I like the most, Madworld is an 8.0 game - and the reasons I like it are the style and story, the gameplay is just okay. I didn't like Bayonetta at all and I hear that Vanquish is similar to PN03, too short, need to replay for scores that kind of thing.
If the red zone edition came out in the west on 360 I would buy it. They seem to have improved the load times too.
Oh yeah I installed iTunes, it's crap, the UK version at least. It has only the junk that's already cheaper to buy on dvd already and only stuff released on dvd in the UK. Only 1 season of Jackie Chan, there are 5 on the US iTunes. You can only search for stuff you specifically want, I wanted to browse all the animation they had and instead just came to stuff they highlighted. Completely pointless.
The amazon.com on demand video won't let me buy it either.
I know you U.S guys may not be getting Xenoblade but you have it better in so many ways.
Anyone else getting pissed off with this eco DVD packaging? I've noticed that Warner Bros use it on all their DC Comics dvds. It sucks, firstly because there is missing plastic the covers get dented really easily. Then because the plastic case no longer completely encases the disc, dust gets in.
It's so annoying, the plastic is going to last forever anyway and not degrade till its recycled, might as well give us a proper fricking case.
At least on the 3DS eco packaging they make it a product feature like this:
Quit your whining and go here.
Yes it is fucking retarded. How is missing half a fucking DVD/Game case going to save the environment? Its not, because I'm more apt to throw this newfangled piece of shit in the dumpster.
LOOK! WE'RE GIVING YOU HALF OF WHAT WE GAVE YOU BEFORE! DON'T POKE YOUR FINGER THROUGH IT...AREN'T WE GREAT!?
No, you're an asshole. Fuck you. Go blow it out yer ass you flesh muppet.
GG I posted Borderlands pics in the thread.
I feel like buying proper dvd cases on ebay, which means it's causing more waste as I would trash the eco dvd rubbish.
Sweet.
What's that site? Can I download and keep tv shows?
P.S I bet you guys all want to see this movie.
Why should you care about Crimson Alliance? Well, besides it being a cooperative play, loot game, here's a few games that members of the development team have worked on:
This is the LAST game of the 2011 Summer of Arcade line-up (which includes Bastion, From Dust and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet)... Out with a bang perhaps?
BTW I played the Zeno Clash demo. What a shit game.
