I am asking if that would help any?

My head is hurting here. It would barely help. There is no upscaling whatsoever so feasibly you would get a better picture if you just bought a cheap ass SDTV off ebay and hooked your Wii 1 up to it. It would cost all of $20.

Then fuck it. My wii takes up almost no space, it wont be an issue to keep it out. Well switching the sensor bar cord will be annoying but I will live.

Just stack two sensor bars on top of eachother.

Do you think they could do updates to make things like the RAM  go faster or are we stuck with long loading times for apps?

Firmware wont improve the basic hardware speed of the RAM, just how efficiently it is accessed. There is video here, some apps load fast, some slow. Optimisation of the actual software (per app) will bring about improvements. It should be noted that no developer has ever complained about the speed of the RAM or the memory at all. In fact there has been nothing but positives from developers over U's RAM.

The RAM runs at 17 GBs/per second, bear in mind that 360s RAM runs at 22.4/GBs/second so there is not a huge difference. 360 also has a small amount of eDram for frame buffering whilst PS3 has faster RAM then both that is used poorly because of the split design and it has no eDram at all.

Wii U has 4 times the memory, one unified pool (?) it's slightly slower but they have 3 times as much eDRAM then 360 too. Like I said, developers have had nothing but praise for the memory - watch the BLOPS 2 video in HD expanded for instance, the detail, textures and lighting is better. Shinen load their entire game on the RAM and says that runs like a SNES emulated game in terms of speed. Ancel said that U has virtually limitless memory that ran huge textures uncompressed. Shinen also said something similar about how it ran everything even unoptimised with no bottlenecks. They say the memory configuration is excellent.

If there are any frame rate problems with ports of launch games it has more to do with the OoO processor where they have been porting in order code over to a new CPU design they are unfamiliar with. A GAF developer said Middleware providers have noted a 300% performance increase with Wii U compared to the same engine on 360. People should not be freaking out that ports of games made for different architectures are having problems. It's not just a new console, it's a new architecture in general which I elaborated on in the Launch thread. They need time to get used to the config which is actually said to be more like the setup the other hardware makers will have for their next systems with GPGPUs and OoO processors etc.

All this nonsense about a couple of ports having some dodgy performance issues should not be freaking anyone out. In many cases these games have had little time and/or money spent on them, Epic Mickey 2 and Madden had all of 6 months of development and most games have been ported by outside companies and not from the original developers of the code. Remember that the dev kits weren't even finalised for E3 this year and the DSP was only unlocked a couple of months back which offloads from the CPU. It's been said on multiple occasions, ports of games made with code for now-outdated architectures will have trouble running on U. Ground up versions should look better, simply look at what Gearbox have said like a gazillion times already, they say the console is powerful and the wii U version will easily be the best. It probably wont compete with next gen consoles but factually it IS better than 360 and PS3, even 5th Cell said it outright when they were tired of the misinformation spread earlier in the year. Even Koei said something like "Make no mistake is can produce better graphics that what is possible on other consoles" etc and Unity is looking to have some DX11 features on U with the 4.0 version.

Wow it seems like Batman on Wii U has horrible framerate.

Anyway I tried Zelda on the Wii U and I think it looks better through HDMI so I will do the transfer after all.

When testing our first code on Wii U we were amazed how much we could throw at it without any slowdowns, at that time we even had zero optimizations. The performance problem of hardware nowadays is not clock speed but ram latency. Fortunately Nintendo took great efforts to ensure developers can really work around that typical bottleneck on Wii U. They put a lot of thought on how CPU, GPU, caches and memory controllers work together to amplify your code speed. For instance, with only some tiny changes we were able to optimize certain heavy load parts of the rendering pipeline to 6x of the original speed, and that was even without using any of the extra cores.

Question: More specifically, we’ve heard rumors about the CPU, that it’s supposedly the weakest link of the system. Word has spread that it’s some sort of Broadway (Wii CPU) but in a three-core configuration and improved. Others have argued that based on its reduced size seen in recent pictures and the overall low consumption of the unit, it is not very powerful. Have you encountered any problems during your development because of this component or is it efficient enough?

We didn’t have such problems. The CPU and GPU are a good match. As said before, today’s hardware has bottlenecks with memory throughput when you don’t care about your coding style and data layout. This is true for any hardware and can’t be only cured by throwing more megahertz and cores on it. Fortunately Nintendo made very wise choices for cache layout, ram latency and ram size to work against these pitfalls. Also Nintendo took care that other components like the Wii U GamePad screen streaming, or the built-in camera don’t put a burden on the CPU or GPU.

Netflix is awesome on this thing. The menus are so easy to navigate and you can switch seamlessly from tv to gamepad at any time

Oh I have friend Miis walking around my menu screen now!

HITMAN ABSOLUTION REVIEWS

  • CVG: 9.0 - "Feels like 'proper' Hitman, mixed with new ideas of varying quality. Crucially, it's great fun, and you'll want to play Absolution through more than once"
  • Edge: 7 - "It's often churlish to criticise a game for daring to do something different, but Absolution is its own indictment - it's still at its peak when it gives its antihero an unwitting victim and a sandbox, and lets him get to work. "
  • Games Radar: 4.5/5 - "Hitman's temporary hiatus did worlds of good for the franchise, and Absolution is one of the strongest entries in the series to date."
  • IGN: 9.0 - "Like Dishonored before it, it's actually a true pleasure to play a game that lets you tackle it from multiple angles."
  • Gamespot: 7.5 - "One thing's for sure: it's good to have Agent 47 back, and he was clearly needed. The greasy world he inhabits was in sore need of cleansing, and it's a pleasure to have so many ways of scraping the human grime off its surface and discarding it like the trash it is."
  • OXM: 9 - "Everything about the world revolves around entertaining you, whether it's the wide scope of murder-options or the amazing dialogue in between. Whatever kind of killer you decide you want to be, Absolution is an unmissable hit."
  • Eurogamer: 7 - "Reloading some of its best levels, turning off the hints and watching and waiting, it's much easier to remember what it is that makes Agent 47 so special."
  • PC Gamer: 66 - "A passable stealth game, but one that betrays almost everything that, until now, has made Hitman great."
  • OPM: 9 - "The only reason Absolution doesn't score higher is because it's familiar gameplay. That's not a criticism, I loved it from start to finish but it doesn't break any molds or raise any bars that would warrant a higher score. What it does do though is deliver about as good a story and rewarding experience as you're likely to get this year."
  • Videogamer: 5/10 - "Occasionally you'll witness flashes of brilliance, glimpses that suggest Io could yet salvage something from this wreckage for its next Hitman game. And then you finish a stage with a tedious quick-time event, snapping the neck of a morbidly obese Danny Trejo-alike in a wrestling match watched by hundreds - astonishingly earning yourself a Silent Assassin rating in the process - and you shake your head sadly and wonder how it all went so badly wrong."
  • Joystiq: 4/5 - "Hitman: Absolution may have abandoned some of the ideals of the original games in the series, but it delivers with its own formula."
  • Kotaku: (No score) - "When it gets cooking, Hitman: Absolution evokes the feeling of a deadly, measured dance. It's a constant tango between you and the computer, with each party alternately taking the lead through arenas that constantly shift, re-set, and upset expectations."

And:

ZOMBI U REVIEWS

  • IGN: 6.3/10 - "ZombieU has so many great ideas from looting with the Wii U GamePad to permadeath to its spooky setting, but none of them grow into a great game."
  • Eurogamer: 9/10 - ZombieU isn't the obligatory FPS launch title, but an original twist on the genre that has no console equivalent. It's not quite a revolution, lacking the scope and variety of mecahnics to compete with high watermarks like Half-Life 2. But that should take nothing away from Ubisoft's achievement, and the success or otherwise of ZombiU could be defining for Wii U.
  • Gamespot: 4.5/10 - ZombiU could have been an enjoyable action game, but instead it is a poor entry in the survival horror genre.
  • Polygon: 8/10 - ZombiU won't be for everyone. It's difficult. It's dark. It deftly juggles genre conventions to do the unexpected. And it's exactly the kind of title that gamers have come to expect from new console launches, the kind of game that makes new console launches exciting.
  • GamesRadar: 4.5/5 - ZombiU's complete and utter dedication to creating a tense, realistic zombie survival game can be problematic, and its often at odds with itself. Despite this, the game successfully proves that horror games can be enhanced by the Wii U's GamePad, and does a great job at showing how the new controller can create an incredibly immersive experience.
  • Game Informer: 5/10 - [ZombiU] shows off nearly every feature of Nintendo's new hardware, but the sum of these parts is a horrifying Frankenstein's Monster. Good zombie games are a dime a dozen these days, and I can't recommend ZombiU above them despite being the only undead shooter on the Wii U.
  • Destructoid: 8/10 - ZombiU is awkward, ugly, crawling in its pace, and often nonsensical with its narrative ... and I remember when horror games weren't ashamed of any of that, even actively exploiting it to create alienating, frightening atmospheres that stick in a players' memories and made them too spooked to want to take another step forward. ZombiU did that to me.

There are more reviews elsewhere but this is a decent round up.

One developer working on a key AAA franchise port told us anonymously that the Nintendo toolchain is "fighting us every step of the way", suggesting that plenty of work still needs to be done in getting development workflow up to scratch.

Might explain some tech issues in some games.^

Story up top, a forumer is claiming Wii games are upscaled on U.

Remember this is not native and not redone Dolphin pin sharp. Just upscaling which your TV should do too.

"I played some Xenoblade and klonoa earlier today and noticed the colors looked somewhat crisper, and things seemed less blurry. I immediately noticed the difference. It's not gonna make it look like dolphin or whatever, but on my HDTV it looks better than component on wii. Personally I think this Is great. As someone whose wii backlog is quite huge this will be a preferable way to play them IMO."

Ok NintendoLand is AWESOME!!!

I think its better alone, the single player games are extremely addicting. DK one in particular is devilishly evil, must finish it. Balloon Fight is fantastic, making you control the game with swipes on the screen to create wind gusts like Lost Winds. I am only scratching the surface, so much to do. When miiverse is activated the plaza comes alive with tons of random miis, all with messages. Some people draw amazing stuff, others are complaining about a difficult level. There are even find a mii mini game where the screen shows you three miis and you have to find them in the crowd to get a coin. Coins unlock stuff in the plaza like statues and a giant jukebox that will unlock with various Nintendo music.

If only this game had online play, the online setup is so perfect already.

It would look nicer on an SDTV!

Another dude:

"I started Xenoblade on my Wii U. The system is upscaling, TV is receiving a 1080p signal in Wii mode.

Colors seem to be a lot more vibrant due to HDMI, IQ looks marginally better... it may just be me, but it seems as though there's less (for lack of a better word) haziness when looking at distant objects. (ie mechonis, clouds, distant outcroppings, etc)"

Ass Creed 3 Wii U vs 360 graphics video

Mostly it's a brightness and contrast difference, the U version is brighter and so you can can see more in the environment but it also shows up more flaws? In general in the video it looks a tiny bit better on U but you could probably equalise both versions but turning the brightness up or down on your tv.

But then at 2 minutes 54 sec that entire scene looks much better on 360. I guess some areas got more attenion than others on U.

EDIT:

Darksiders 2 Wii U

"shadows and high detail textures extend much further into the environment than the PS360 versions. No problem with framerate."

COD BLOPS 2 U

Shadows on level 1 appear pixelated until you go up close to them. Edgecrusher test this?

Wow Halo 4 is definitely shaping up to be my favorite Halo game yet. Every fight keeps you on your toes and forces you to constantly think about the best possible gun for any particular encounter. It's also incredibly looking.

Agreed...they totally nailed the Halo experience.

Wow it seems like Batman on Wii U has horrible framerate.

Anyway I tried Zelda on the Wii U and I think it looks better through HDMI so I will do the transfer after all.

Luckily I don't have to transfer anything since I have no Wii 1.

From Solid at GS

Looks like the RAM used in the Wii is 43% slower than the PS360. They are likely using cheap PC RAM instead of the faster RAM usually used in consoles. So even though the Wii U has four times the RAM of PS360, it's half as slow. That explains the ridiculous loading times in the menu.

Apparently, Batman U has a terrible framerate. So does BLOPs and is missing key graphical features

This hardware gets an F. This is a mess of a system, the complete opposite of the super intuative, simple, functions very smoothly Wii.

I am shocked that Solid would post something negative about a non Sony console.
