My head is hurting here. It would barely help. There is no upscaling whatsoever so feasibly you would get a better picture if you just bought a cheap ass SDTV off ebay and hooked your Wii 1 up to it. It would cost all of $20.
Just stack two sensor bars on top of eachother.
Firmware wont improve the basic hardware speed of the RAM, just how efficiently it is accessed. There is video here, some apps load fast, some slow. Optimisation of the actual software (per app) will bring about improvements. It should be noted that no developer has ever complained about the speed of the RAM or the memory at all. In fact there has been nothing but positives from developers over U's RAM.
The RAM runs at 17 GBs/per second, bear in mind that 360s RAM runs at 22.4/GBs/second so there is not a huge difference. 360 also has a small amount of eDram for frame buffering whilst PS3 has faster RAM then both that is used poorly because of the split design and it has no eDram at all.
Wii U has 4 times the memory, one unified pool (?) it's slightly slower but they have 3 times as much eDRAM then 360 too. Like I said, developers have had nothing but praise for the memory - watch the BLOPS 2 video in HD expanded for instance, the detail, textures and lighting is better. Shinen load their entire game on the RAM and says that runs like a SNES emulated game in terms of speed. Ancel said that U has virtually limitless memory that ran huge textures uncompressed. Shinen also said something similar about how it ran everything even unoptimised with no bottlenecks. They say the memory configuration is excellent.
If there are any frame rate problems with ports of launch games it has more to do with the OoO processor where they have been porting in order code over to a new CPU design they are unfamiliar with. A GAF developer said Middleware providers have noted a 300% performance increase with Wii U compared to the same engine on 360. People should not be freaking out that ports of games made for different architectures are having problems. It's not just a new console, it's a new architecture in general which I elaborated on in the Launch thread. They need time to get used to the config which is actually said to be more like the setup the other hardware makers will have for their next systems with GPGPUs and OoO processors etc.
All this nonsense about a couple of ports having some dodgy performance issues should not be freaking anyone out. In many cases these games have had little time and/or money spent on them, Epic Mickey 2 and Madden had all of 6 months of development and most games have been ported by outside companies and not from the original developers of the code. Remember that the dev kits weren't even finalised for E3 this year and the DSP was only unlocked a couple of months back which offloads from the CPU. It's been said on multiple occasions, ports of games made with code for now-outdated architectures will have trouble running on U. Ground up versions should look better, simply look at what Gearbox have said like a gazillion times already, they say the console is powerful and the wii U version will easily be the best. It probably wont compete with next gen consoles but factually it IS better than 360 and PS3, even 5th Cell said it outright when they were tired of the misinformation spread earlier in the year. Even Koei said something like "Make no mistake is can produce better graphics that what is possible on other consoles" etc and Unity is looking to have some DX11 features on U with the 4.0 version.
Wow Halo 4 is definitely shaping up to be my favorite Halo game yet. Every fight keeps you on your toes and forces you to constantly think about the best possible gun for any particular encounter. It's also incredibly looking.
Wow it seems like Batman on Wii U has horrible framerate.
Anyway I tried Zelda on the Wii U and I think it looks better through HDMI so I will do the transfer after all.
Yeah Steel it's a pretty awsome game! Vader I don't have my U yet it's been in Chicago since Friday but Fed Ex won't deliver to homes on Monday GRRRR
Ultrasound an SDTV.
It will outscan an HDTV.
Netflix is awesome on this thing. The menus are so easy to navigate and you can switch seamlessly from tv to gamepad at any time
Oh I have friend Miis walking around my menu screen now!
I should get mine tomorrow, I will update with friend name and impressions from having it. So far its all been from reading about and others impressions. I may keep Zombie a lot of people seem to like it, while afew don't.
And:
There are more reviews elsewhere but this is a decent round up.
Wow reviews for Zombie are all over the place!
Might explain some tech issues in some games.^
Wow, Baker street?
Story up top, a forumer is claiming Wii games are upscaled on U.
Remember this is not native and not redone Dolphin pin sharp. Just upscaling which your TV should do too.
"I played some Xenoblade and klonoa earlier today and noticed the colors looked somewhat crisper, and things seemed less blurry. I immediately noticed the difference. It's not gonna make it look like dolphin or whatever, but on my HDTV it looks better than component on wii. Personally I think this Is great. As someone whose wii backlog is quite huge this will be a preferable way to play them IMO."
Ok NintendoLand is AWESOME!!!
I think its better alone, the single player games are extremely addicting. DK one in particular is devilishly evil, must finish it. Balloon Fight is fantastic, making you control the game with swipes on the screen to create wind gusts like Lost Winds. I am only scratching the surface, so much to do. When miiverse is activated the plaza comes alive with tons of random miis, all with messages. Some people draw amazing stuff, others are complaining about a difficult level. There are even find a mii mini game where the screen shows you three miis and you have to find them in the crowd to get a coin. Coins unlock stuff in the plaza like statues and a giant jukebox that will unlock with various Nintendo music.
If only this game had online play, the online setup is so perfect already.
Told you the wii games looked nicer.
Will do the system transfer.
It would look nicer on an SDTV!
Another dude:
"I started Xenoblade on my Wii U. The system is upscaling, TV is receiving a 1080p signal in Wii mode.
Colors seem to be a lot more vibrant due to HDMI, IQ looks marginally better... it may just be me, but it seems as though there's less (for lack of a better word) haziness when looking at distant objects. (ie mechonis, clouds, distant outcroppings, etc)"
Ass Creed 3 Wii U vs 360 graphics video
Mostly it's a brightness and contrast difference, the U version is brighter and so you can can see more in the environment but it also shows up more flaws? In general in the video it looks a tiny bit better on U but you could probably equalise both versions but turning the brightness up or down on your tv.
But then at 2 minutes 54 sec that entire scene looks much better on 360. I guess some areas got more attenion than others on U.
EDIT:
Darksiders 2 Wii U
"shadows and high detail textures extend much further into the environment than the PS360 versions. No problem with framerate."
COD BLOPS 2 U
Shadows on level 1 appear pixelated until you go up close to them. Edgecrusher test this?
Agreed...they totally nailed the Halo experience.
Luckily I don't have to transfer anything since I have no Wii 1.
I am shocked that Solid would post something negative about a non Sony console.
