I've seen the two compared a few times. If it's not a common idea then part of my review won't make much sense. Which is fine given the contents of the review (most of it doesn't make sense).
Should hopefully be online tomorrow by the time you're home, if that might help you out a bit more.
In Portal you're in one room trying to get out. Then you end up in another and the same thing happens. Rinse and repeat. In Antichamber you're in a bigish area with many, many rooms and many different ways to progress depending on what puzzles you feel like solving, and there's a big range of styles in the puzzles as well where as Portal follows the one hook for every puzzle. I'm not sure I'd say it's playing on convention, so much as ignoring a lot of them to form its own ones...but it is meta as fuck. There's certainly much more interesting going on at all times than in Portal.
Because all the actual games that were demoed looked closer to the dragon demo than actual Wii U games look to the Zelda video...
From that Kotaku article:
The only game we saw last night that looked too good be to true was Capcom's tech-demo/work-in-progress/maybe-it's-a-game Deep Down.
This was the one "game" shown that seemed so unbelievable that, with memories of 2006 in my head, I didn't believe it. No way that's real. Well, later in the evening I was talking to some people who've worked on the PS4. Not Capcom people, but developers. And they said, actually, sure, that's doable, maybe if you constrain the game you're designing. Maybe if you make it like a one-room-at-a-time dungeon crawler. A PS4 game could look that good."
So are we to not expect this kind of visual clarity from many games then?
I'm not sure why you think the Zelda demo looked so advanced that a console that is a decent amount stronger graphically than the PS3 couldn't pull it off. If the PS3 can do stuff like Uncharted 3, the Wii U can definitely do that Zelda demo. I look forward to Retro making a new Metroid that blows that demo out of the water, actually.
It's not that the Wii U can't do that Zelda demo, it's that Nintendo won't do that Zelda demo on Wii U; they'll do something graphically different just to be different, fix what doesn't need fixing.
Haven't they already said the new game is going to have a completely different style from all previous games? Not sure how that's even possible...unless they went either photo-realistic or black & white.
I hadn't heard that, but it definitely sounds like Nintendo.
You should get it, and do a video review, aspro!
Oh, yeah. The Wii U only has 2GB of RAM. I forgot about that. PS4 has 8GB, and 720 will most likely go with 8GB as well. Poor Nintendo. They should have included a RAM expansion port on the U like the N64 had, so they could upgrade it when needed. Dreamcast indeed.
HOLY CRAP-A-MOLEY!! I've said it once, twice and three times, but I'll say it again!
FIRE EMBLEM: AWAKENING IS ----THE---- BEST REASON TO OWN A 3DS!! IF YOU OWN THE SYSTEM AND YOU DON'T OWN THIS GAME, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!!
I don't care how powerful systems ARE or ARE NOT. WHEN A GAME IS MASTERFUL it is MASTERFUL, REGARDLESS OF THE VIDEO RAM, PROCESSOR POWER, etc.
NINTENDO and/or INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS are MASTERS of their CRAFT and I have COMPLETE FAITH in them!!
I think the only reason they are remaking Wind Waker is they liked how it looked when they tested each artstlye on Wii U hardware.
They were testing them to try out which one they wanted for the new Zelda that doesn't mean they would use it for Wii U Zelda.
That being said I would love to see pink-haired Link from LttP in full 3D with that same style.
SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:
I just rewatched it, there are some things that do look current genish enough to pull it off. Sorry but looking at the Wii and those graphical promises that never came true I am going to sit and wait to see an actual game before believing the wii U can do something that impressive.
As a side-note: I have spent the morning hooking up a new PS3, downloading previous PSN games and new ones, and preparing for a PS3 game completing campaign I plan to begin in March. I have been playing Fire Emblem as I wait to DL things, and I just got passed a MAJOR, PIVOTAL part in the game and --WOW-- just wow! Mature story, razor-sharp refined Gameplay, and addictive as HELL DLC. This is Nintendo at their finest! Who else besides Archie picked this game up?
I plan on getting it when I get money in March; I hope I can find it in retailers but I will definitely get it Fire Emblem is one of my favorite series eventhough I missed the GBA titles (Nintendo needs those on the Wii U eShop)
SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:
I will onc I finish the slew of portable games I already own.
You can pretty much recruit EVERYONE from past Fire Emblem games in Awakening, so maybe, just maybe, Nintendo will be wise and release all the past games to show all the gamers that picked this one up where all those heroes came from!

What promises? Iwata saying you will say wow? That was before we even saw any games if I recall. When all they showed was a small black box.
As far as I remember there were no Wii 1 tech demos or videos promising a certain level of graphics. You have to go back to Spaceworld 2000 to see GC tech demos which were then surpassed by actual GC graphics and those were target videos.
What we saw at E3 2011 from Wii U were two realtime demos done on earlier, weaker hardware than what is in the final retail unit. The hardware is even more capable than what was done on those demos.
Our view of the bird and zelda demos is probably skewed in that we saw recordings off screen and no direct feed video or screens.
This is the only direct feed screen I can think of.
PS4's cloud services are aspirational, not dated reality
It sounds like they were just floating ideas that they might eventually get to work. Calling them aspirational. He "thinks" it'll be there for the device but has no idea when? Specualtes that "there are things we're gonna do over time"?
Eventually..... "I think there will be a tangible example of all the things that we showed. "
What the hell is this?
