Welcome to the future....where consoles act like PC's so you may as well just play on PC.
I believe you can convert your old EA account to an Origin account, if you ever set one up on the Wii for like Medal Of Honor or some shitty game.
Bioshock Infinite is going to take my seed!
Yeah, SSX also wanted me to create an Origin account last year, and they lock out some content if you don't create one. All EA games will require an Origin account soon.
Screw online, screw Origin. DECLINE DECLINE
I played about an hour of NFS Wii U. Hmmmm, a quality game for sure but I have many niggles. Firstly I can't change the camera, it's either first person or 3rd but you can't adjust the angle or zoom. I usually set the camera far out and change the angle so you can more easily see what's ahead. This game is so godamn fast it's sometimes hard to concentrate on this tiny eagle eyed view right in front to tell where the road is heading. Also this is my first open world driving game, usually I'm used to closed off tracks so it's fairly easy to tell where you are supossed to be going. Here it's like one big GTA style city and you have these races with little decent signposting of really sharp corners. So you often zoom about at a kajillion km an hour along a straight road, heading towards a building and you are desperatly looking at the corner map trying to discern whether you are supossed to go sharp right or sharp left. And by the time you can check the map, you've pancaked into a building at top speed.
For an arcadey game it sure is a hard game, the controls take some getting used to, but as with all racing games different cars handle differently. I have found a couple of good handling cars and when you win more races you earn points where you can upgrade cars so they are better. I think I will stick to one and max out everything.
Anyway you do these races and then these fecking cops start busting your chops, as if it wasn't annoying enough to street race, fight the controls, dodge traffic, discern pinpoint corners in a millisecond, you get asshole cops on your ass! Whhhhhy??!
Anyway thankfully the game has a mode where you just cruise about the city, drive about, do stunts. Basically like GTA without the third person, you can jack cars too, explore, admire the city. Good stuff. If it wasn't for this mode I think I might not give the game the chance I have. The free mode lets you get a handle on the cars and get used to everything with no pressure instead of being forced to learn mid race.
The music is godawful, the most annoying crappiest, grating pop and rock I have ever heard in a game. It's like a cheese grater on my soul.
The Wii U Specific controls are great, a huge touchscreen with instant options to disrupt cops, easily and seamlessly change car and colour, rebuild, change day into night. You can flip on a huge map too which can be useful when evading the cops with the realtime map, much larger than that little POS onscreen map. Most of the options have sub menus, easy to navigate.
Offscreen looks good but not Trine 2-with-the-update good. Methinks they still have the extra gamma pass enabled, tut tut, meaning you have meaningful colour loss. The Wii U touch screen implementation is so smooth and well designed it's somewhat painful to go into the main menu with d-pad controls and no touchscreen use, tiny icons and a befuddled presentation. Also the start button menus look aliased to crap on the Wii U pad screen, I think they've downscaled rather than run a native 480p to the u pad screen and certainly have done nothing to adapt the menu to a more elegant touch screen design.
I haven't seen this yet though^ have to try that out.
Graphics are great for the most part though they won't wow you, there won't be a next gen moment or anything. I'm playing on a 1080p and there are some jaggies but I have found with other games on this tv when I get home and switch to the native resolution it usually looks a lot better. The PC textures are great, but you wont notice them whilst zipping about at a million miles an hour. It's only when you're crusing about in the bright sunshine, chilling out and panning the camera when you notice some the textures being really high quality, very, very nice. It's a shame this isn't a slower paced game, more like GTA IV speed, racing because it would be a lot prettier and a lot easier to control.
They haven't given the cars PC textures or geometry just the environment so oddly you get this clear, detailed beautiful shot of some of the environment spoiled because the back bumper of your car has a jaggy line.
Performance is great, no noticible frame rate probems at all. Shaders are good. There are times it looks like a PC game, other times somewhat like a 360 game or midway between the two. It kinda depends on the lighting and area where you are more than anything else. It's hard to drive in the dark though, thankfully you can flip daylight on whenever you want.
Oh yeah the ultimate speed pack is included and the cars are all unlocked, you can touch screen hot swap cars, really nice feature. I wish more games would give you instant options and freedom like this, its pretty handy. Seems like a quality game but damn, it is hard.
Awesome.
