Wii U ~ 68k. 5 month period, that is beyond terrible. Especially since it had some actual good games released.
I'm confused. Tomb Raider has sold over 3.4 million.
Shipped. Which is sold for Square. Also this is just america and retail only.
And yet when Vader, Edgecrusher etc say the same thing, they aren't accused of the same sensitivity, please Pro. I retreated from mainline gaming forums many years ago and don't listen to any podcasts anymore. However I do read GAF every day and yes, Nintendo gets the middle finger up the ass on a regular basis and has done for years regarding rehashing. And yet when MS rolls up with an E3 with nothing but Gears, Call of Duty, Splinter Cell and Halo you do not get the gangbang group-on mass of bitching. I am not talking about here, I am talking about 1up, GAF, Gamespot, IGN boards etc etc. GAF yesterday for instance had about 3 to 4 threads about the N.Direct being nothing but rehashes.
I mean, people want AAA blockbuster mature type games, they want Lords of Shadow, they want MGS, they want Halo, they want Splinter Cell, they want Resident Evil. Nintendo has very few studios capable of making such games and those studios are already busy making their own IP. They also tend to take a long time making said games, they are not studios which can regularly churn out games every year or two years - they are usually 3-5 year release developers.
WTH are you talking about? I'm sorry if you personalised this and thought I was addressing just you. When I am addressing this subject, sorry but I am not talking about so small a sample as just you, Raven and Godmode, I am addressing the mass-on bitching in general that has persisted for years about Nintendo franchises all around the internet, because that's what I see online and have done for years. If you have your individual problems with Nintendo then please go ahead and just talk about that, but gaming discussion exists outside this site and when I am exposed to that I react. Vader knows what I am talking about whenever he witnesses some BS on GS or GAF, part of his comments here are his reaction to that.
I am not internalising this, this is not about 3 people, I am talking in general about the mass gaming fans around the world - if you fail to see that, well I'm sorry strawman, I wasn't talking specifically about you and I'd rather you didn't just paint me as a fanboy because of it as you have done a few times already over the years.
You know what I am sensitive about? You doing that. Thanks.
You want to talk about you specifically, go ahead. Do you like the new IP Nintendo has been creating? Do you like or want more Brain Training, Nintendogs, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Play, Pushmo, Harmoknight, Excitetruck, Excitebots, Battalion Wars, Xenoblade, Disaster Day of Crisis, Rhythm Heaven, Warioware. This is the new IP Nintendo has made, do you want it? Do they satisfy you? This is their idea of new IP, not Infamous, Gears of War, SOTC, Heavy Rain. So when "people" say they want Nintendo to make new IP, Nintendo have made new IP but people do not want the IP they are making. They want AAA mature blockbusters for the most part - oh sorry by saying "they" and "people" I am artificially grouping you with a faceless mass of people you don't agree with sorry. Do I really have to quality my comments with stuff like this to point out that I am talking in general?
Jesus.
So sad.
Thanks. I hate when people keep assuming I am well and ask me to do stupid stuff just because I keep a good spirit about me. I am in pain a lot and tired virtually all the time. Sometimes someone will say, can you help move this bench to the back of the house? And I'll be sitting there
Very sad, I did hear from a lot of peeps on GAF that they couldn't even find it stocked in stores and people had to download it so digital sales are probably higher. In the UK the situation is even worse, U games are not even stocked in most stores or they have 1 solitary game.
No advertising though and another late port, barely any sites even reviewed it compared to any other big release. Shame as it's a great game, very polished, upgraded and somewhat tuned for better performance both in the interface and in the engine.
Man, I hate to hear this. My thoughts are with you and your family.
This GAF thread is exactly what I was talking about:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=542826
And the answers, each one from someone different:
This is all just from page 1.
So the majority want GTA style sandbox games, third or first person shooters, a traditional or God of War like fighting game, Dark and cinematic epic shit. Horror games, a cinematic RPG - I guess X and Xenboblade don't count to them. Or unrealistic expectations like an arty game or a demolition derby game. They want sports games but anything Mario branded doesn't count.
Or, they want Nintendo to make a western style open world RPG? Or shooter. Meanwhile Nintendo is making "an interesting puzzle game from Intelligent Systems starring a sumo wrestler that's maybe a dog"
This is what I'm trying to say, people in general don't want Nintendo's new IP because their new IP isn't the type of game most people want. People don't want them to make a Pushmo or Pikmin type game, they have different expecations, many of which are unrealistic. If you had seen them asking for an action rpg or adventure game that would be more realistic. Expecting a Nintendo God of War? Well you're lucky you're getting Bayonetta 2.
Personally I think reviving old neglected IP is almost as good as new IP. For instance they made the last Kid Icarus game in 1991 a gameboy game, over 20 years later they revive it to make the 3DS game. Pilotwings N64 launched in 1996 then it was revived 15 years later.
Very sorry to hear that. Hang in there, buddy...
Ouch... sorry to hear it Vader. No matter what shape they're in its never easy to watch stuff like that happen.
Tbh, I would absolutely love to see Nintendo make a mature/teen third person action adventure. Move out of their comfort zone and try something new and completely unexpected. Why? Because I believe they could actually knock it out of the park. I thought we were gonna get this with Project HAMMER.
Earthbound Wii U Virtual Console Gameplay Footage
Very conflicted about getting this. On one hand I don't like Earthbound. I've tried over and over again and never could stick with it for more than 20 hours. Everything just gets monotonous. On the other hand if there's even a chance in hell that support of this leads to Mother 3 how could I not get it?
But wasn't Project Hammer so bad they shut it down? We don't that.
Is Earthbound coming to the 3DS as well?
I'd like to see Wave Race do a comeback. I was going to say F-Zero as well because I know people who like it love it a great deal but it was too hard for me. Wave Race was sheer bliss though. Never have I experienced better wave or water physics. And I wasn't even playing it with rumble for I had a wavebird controller.
Perhaps they could do something with Ice Climber. If it was transformed the way Donkey Kong did for example when Rare took it and turned it into DKC.
OR maybe they should do another Mother. A top down Mother 4 for 3DS. Or go all out and do a console JRPG
I also definitely agree with the idea of commissioning several other games from Platinum or even getting them to work internally for them.
Also developing new teams further. Like Artoon with Yoshi's Island and the team which created Luigi's Mansion 2.
Expanding Intelligent Systems (or paying them overtime) so that they can be adding both to Fire Emblem and to Advance Wars
Working with more western teams. Retro are gods among developers, surely there's more talent Nintendo could take under their wing to develop further (even if it means turning over a few tables).
Bying Level-5. Seriously why not? Or at least commissioning a lot more games from them.
As for people asking for a Nintendo FPS, I've had this idea for many many years (at least since the Gamecube), that Nintendo should do Mario Paintball, which would be a bona fide multiplayer FPS but without all the blood and gore. With familiar characters which could have different traits/styles and all kinds of crazy power up items bonuses etc. Could be tons of fun whilst remaining family friendly.
But most of the recent announcements please me greatly. Especially Pikmin 3 (if true) and new Mario & Luigi
