Wii U ~ 68k. 5 month period, that is beyond terrible. Especially since it had some actual good games released.

What, TR only sold 10k more than GoW: Ascension, that is not good. I think over 600k for both cash in GoW sequels is good. Gow A outsold Gears when including the bundles.

I'm confused. Tomb Raider has sold over 3.4 million.

For my part I said I've always enjoyed Nintendo's hardware and third party games.  I am just sick of Nintendo's games, (with three notable exceptions)..

...

It's fine if people groan when Nintendo announce a sequel but when God of War X, Gears of War X, Halo X and Splinter Cell X and Call of Duty X etc get announced there should be a similar reaction IMO.

They bitch endlessly (as do I). You clearly don't listen to gaming podcasts.  As stated earlier, every franchise listed there I once loved and bought every instance of but now no longer buy because the are re-hashed to the point of irrelevance.  I skipped ODST and Reach for example, picked up Halo 4 out of curiosity of what a new studio could do with the franchise.

Old things get older with time GG.  This is not a special thing that only Nintendo gets criticized for, you are just more sensitive to criticism of Nintendo because of your preferences.

And yet when Vader, Edgecrusher etc say the same thing, they aren't accused of the same sensitivity, please Pro. I retreated from mainline gaming forums many years ago and don't listen to any podcasts anymore. However I do read GAF every day and yes, Nintendo gets the middle finger up the ass on a regular basis and has done for years regarding rehashing. And yet when MS rolls up with an E3 with nothing but Gears, Call of Duty, Splinter Cell and Halo you do not get the gangbang group-on mass of bitching. I am not talking about here, I am talking about 1up, GAF, Gamespot, IGN boards etc etc. GAF yesterday for instance had about 3 to 4 threads about the N.Direct being nothing but rehashes.

aspro said:

What exactly do you mean by Xbox or Sony style games?

I mean, people want AAA blockbuster mature type games, they want Lords of Shadow, they want MGS, they want Halo, they want Splinter Cell, they want Resident Evil. Nintendo has very few studios capable of making such games and those studios are already busy making their own IP. They also tend to take a long time making said games, they are not studios which can regularly churn out games every year or two years - they are usually 3-5 year release developers.

aspro said:

And why do you continue to construct strawmen to argue with when you have real people, right here, willing to have a conversation?  Whenever we have this conversation it always, "people this and people that".

WTH are you talking about? I'm sorry if you personalised this and thought I was addressing just you. When I am addressing this subject, sorry but I am not talking about so small a sample as just you, Raven and Godmode, I am addressing the mass-on bitching in general that has persisted for years about Nintendo franchises all around the internet, because that's what I see online and have done for years. If you have your individual problems with Nintendo then please go ahead and just talk about that, but gaming discussion exists outside this site and when I am exposed to that I react. Vader knows what I am talking about whenever he witnesses some BS on GS or GAF, part of his comments here are his reaction to that.

I am not internalising this, this is not about 3 people, I am talking in general about the mass gaming fans around the world - if you fail to see that, well I'm sorry strawman, I wasn't talking specifically about you and I'd rather you didn't just paint me as a fanboy because of it as you have done a few times already over the years.

You know what I am sensitive about? You doing that. Thanks. yes

You want to talk about you specifically, go ahead. Do you like the new IP Nintendo has been creating? Do you like or want more Brain Training, Nintendogs, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Play, Pushmo, Harmoknight, Excitetruck, Excitebots, Battalion Wars, Xenoblade, Disaster Day of Crisis, Rhythm Heaven, Warioware. This is the new IP Nintendo has made, do you want it? Do they satisfy you? This is their idea of new IP, not Infamous, Gears of War, SOTC, Heavy Rain. So when "people" say they want Nintendo to make new IP, Nintendo have made new IP but people do not want the IP they are making. They want AAA mature blockbusters for the most part - oh sorry by saying "they" and "people" I am artificially grouping you with a faceless mass of people you don't agree with sorry. Do I really have to quality my comments with stuff like this to point out that I am talking in general?

Jesus.

Thanks. I hate when people keep assuming I am well and ask me to do stupid stuff just because I keep a good spirit about me. I am in pain a lot and tired virtually all the time. Sometimes someone will say, can you help move this bench to the back of the house? And I'll be sitting there indecision

Good news is that it will be $10 really soon!

Very sad, I did hear from a lot of peeps on GAF that they couldn't even find it stocked in stores and people had to download it so digital sales are probably higher. In the UK the situation is even worse, U games are not even stocked in most stores or they have 1 solitary game.

No advertising though and another late port, barely any sites even reviewed it compared to any other big release. Shame as it's a great game, very polished, upgraded and somewhat tuned for better performance both in the interface and in the engine.

This GAF thread is exactly what I was talking about:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=542826

People want new Nintendo franchises, what exactly would you like to see from who?

Everyone. or at least a vocal majority, want Nintendo to bring out new IPs.

Technically they do, you have the casual fare like Brain Age and Nintendogs from DS and Wii Sports on Wii (poor example but it does count), you have franchises from 3rd-parties like Dillion's Rolling Western, Sakura Samurai, and such on eShop with InSys's own Pushmo on eShop as well.

And of course Monolith's gigaton Xenoblade Chronicles.

But I myself know when people say Nintendo IPs, they mean stuff like Pikmin, from Miyamoto's own brilliant mind and 100% by EAD.

And the answers, each one from someone different:

  • I'd like to see a third person shooter from them honestly
  • A new 3D adventure game from Retro. A completely serious RPG from HAL. A sci-fi shooter from...a new team
  • an incredible God of War-like and/or DMC-like game.
  • a FPS and "Cinematic Adventure". maybe they could mess with the sandbox concept
  • A first person shooter. It would be colorful and awesome. Developed by Nintendo.
  • Ask Game Freak to design an RPG set in a contemporary fantasy world like Pokemon but aimed a little older
  • I'd like them to do what they did during the GC launch (Pikmin and Luigi's mansion), make short, concentrated games with replay value
  • I'd actually love to see their take on a large, open world sandbox game of some sort. Something that completely shocks you. Or a horror game or something similar.
  • Dark epic shit. Sandbox with dark shit as well.
  • the selfish part of me would love to see Nintendo put out a more "traditional" fighter
  • Nintendo has made a ton of IPs this gen alone. Yet when people bring them up, you hear people say "they dont count."
  • An open-world RPG
  • A cinematic Mario universe RPG
  • I'd like to see an interesting puzzle game from Intelligent Systems starring a sumo wrestler that's maybe a dog. You people suck
  • caveman MMO with dinosaurs
  • Perfect Dark-style game by Retro Studios. Banjo-style platformer with Popo and Nana by EAD Tokyo.
  • I love to see them do a demolition derby type game.
  • Guess similar to SoTC
  • i would love it if nintendo made more arcade sports games. skateboarding, snowboarding, racing (not mario kart), baseball, basketball, football
  • Nintendo lacks in WRPGs and shooters

This is all just from page 1.

So the majority want GTA style sandbox games, third or first person shooters, a traditional or God of War like fighting game, Dark and cinematic epic shit. Horror games, a cinematic RPG  - I guess X and Xenboblade don't count to them. Or unrealistic expectations like an arty game or a demolition derby game. They want sports games but anything Mario branded doesn't count.

Or, they want Nintendo to make a western style open world RPG? Or shooter. Meanwhile Nintendo is making "an interesting puzzle game from Intelligent Systems starring a sumo wrestler that's maybe a dog"

This is what I'm trying to say, people in general don't want Nintendo's new IP because their new IP isn't the type of game most people want. People don't want them to make a Pushmo or Pikmin type game, they have different expecations, many of which are unrealistic. If you had seen them asking for an action rpg or adventure game that would be more realistic. Expecting a Nintendo God of War? Well you're lucky you're getting Bayonetta 2.

Personally I think reviving old neglected IP is almost as good as new IP. For instance they made the last Kid Icarus game in 1991 a gameboy game, over 20 years later they revive it to make the 3DS game. Pilotwings N64 launched in 1996 then it was revived 15 years later.

Tbh, I would absolutely love to see Nintendo make a mature/teen third person action adventure.  Move out of their comfort zone and try something new and completely unexpected.  Why?  Because I believe they could actually knock it out of the park.  I thought we were gonna get this with Project HAMMER.

Earthbound Wii U Virtual Console Gameplay Footage

Very conflicted about getting this. On one hand I don't like Earthbound. I've tried over and over again and never could stick with it for more than 20 hours. Everything just gets monotonous. On the other hand if there's even a chance in hell that support of this leads to Mother 3 how could I not get it?

But wasn't Project Hammer so bad they shut it down? We don't that.

This GAF thread is exactly what I was talking about:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=542826

I'd like to see Wave Race do a comeback.  I was going to say F-Zero as well because I know people who like it love it a great deal but it was too hard for me.  Wave Race was sheer bliss though.  Never have I experienced better wave or water physics.  And I wasn't even playing it with rumble for I had a wavebird controller.

Perhaps they could do something with Ice Climber.  If it was transformed the way Donkey Kong did for example when Rare took it and turned it into DKC.

OR maybe they should do another Mother.  A top down Mother 4 for 3DS.  Or go all out and do a console JRPG

I also definitely agree with the idea of commissioning several other games from Platinum or even getting them to work internally for them.

Also developing new teams further.  Like Artoon with Yoshi's Island and the team which created Luigi's Mansion 2.

Expanding Intelligent Systems (or paying them overtime) so that they can be adding both to Fire Emblem and to Advance Wars

Working with more western teams.  Retro are gods among developers, surely there's more talent Nintendo could take under their wing to develop further (even if it means turning over a few tables).

Bying Level-5.  Seriously why not?  Or at least commissioning a lot more games from them.

As for people asking for a Nintendo FPS, I've had this idea for many many years (at least since the Gamecube), that Nintendo should do Mario Paintball, which would be a bona fide multiplayer FPS but without all the blood and gore.  With familiar characters which could have different traits/styles and all kinds of crazy power up items bonuses etc.  Could be tons of fun whilst remaining family friendly.

But most of the recent announcements please me greatly.  Especially Pikmin 3 (if true) and new Mario & Luigi

Sorry about your grandfather going down like that Vader.

I have no recollection of either of my grandmothers or grandfathers, and I think that deep down it's the reason I turned out like the cruel-hearted cynical bastard I did.

Not at this time. They've only announced it for the Wii U right now. I think it'll stay exclusive to it for a while to help add incentive for owning a Wii U.

600k < gowj < gowa < tr, but the diff between each other is less than 10k

What, TR only sold 10k more than GoW: Ascension, that is not good. I think over 600k for both cash in GoW sequels is good. Gow A outsold Gears when including the bundles.

Agreed.  And glad your grandparents have loving family to help them through.
