No I didn't, the Wii U is going to look shit in VR which is going to follow on from HD (we're skipping 4k). We're talking about the future, remember? WinkWink

Wow Monster Hunter Ult sure looks pretty but damn the huge amounts of dialog in tiny little boxes sure is annoying. Plus the fact the dialog goes on and on basically saying nothing new or useful. I hope it gets better, sure glad I only paid 29 $ for it Sad so not impressed by Wii U.

I tried the demo and hated it. Did you try it before buying? Not my kind of game but the loading screens without proper gating was jarring, controls were just too.... you had to learn persevere etc. I just don't have the patience for it. Really enjoying LEGO City though, you should have bought that. I've played it for hours now, it's GTA with fun lego characters. And even the LEGO gameplay bits most of it I have tried is fun. The platforming is like Prince of Persia light and actually more involved than modern day Assasins Creed. The driving is like GTA/Simpsons hit and run. Then in the lego gameplay bits you have this combination of beating guys up which is more fun than in the Arkham games, things to smash, some puzzles to solve and some platforming mixed in. No question in my mind that this is a good game.

It'll be a shit future if there is a THE medium, whether it is video games or otherwise.

I meant it as the main one to usser in VR. If it takes off everything will use it.

I really don't get you sometimes. You want VR but how do you expect it to take off? When I have suggested that PS4 should be a PS3 level console with a HMD packed in you guys have been against it. You said yourself you don't like this approach and would rather have the money spent on specs and then have optional peripherals? But then nothing gets made for the peripherals because they are too costly and no one supports them. So if you want VR, how do you expect VR to take off if it's not packaged in with a gaming console? HMDs already exist to buy separatly and no one is buying them en masse.

Alex Ward from Criterion said:

Here is what I want folks to know. Some folks are eternally disappointed. Nothing I can do about that. So many tweets asking for new Burnout.

Equally many tweets asking for a new NFS game from us. Also Road Rash. Whilst I love all of those games, I am personally not doing any.

As a diehard NES gamer in the late '80s UK I was misled by many gaming mags hinting at games to be released.

Most games did not get a PAL release. Most of the hot stuff was JPN and USA only. Hence I hate to mislead ANYONE.

No point saving up hard earned money for your fave game not to come. Trust me, I have been there."

After over a decade of making racing games it's time to make something new. It is early days thus I have nothing to "announce" or talk about.

I will do my best to keep folks in the loop who want to follow what we play or what inspires us. Or what we might be listening to.

But if you are following me expecting some Megaton of a new Burnout game, or an Underground remake then I have to disappoint you.

I am proud of all of the Burnout games. When it feels right we will make another one. We are creative people.

So I hope you will join us on a new journey. Hope it makes sense. #Butit'syourkidsMarty! #PromiseMeWe'llBeBackInTime.

No Black2 either folks. Volumes to tell on that topic, but will save that for when I get a book deal...

Thanks for the support everybody. We won't let you down! #tothefuture."

So something new, not a racing game.

Battlefield 4 head dismisses motion control as a ‘gimmick’

Motion control is a ‘gimmick’ that won’t be implemented in Battlefield 4 because it adds nothing to the game, DICE executive producer Patrick Bach has said.

Bach also suggested that other companies have been “throwing money” at the studio to implement motion control in its games, but it has resisted.

Motion control is expected to play a large role in PlayStation 4’s next-gen offering through the use of DualShock 4 and PS Eye, and Microsoft’s next Xbox is expected to ship with a new, improved Kinect camera. But it’s not part of DICE’s plans with its next-gen shooter, says Bach. “We are not interested in things that don’t make the game better,” he told us. “There are a lot of gimmicks – people throwing money at us – ‘can you implement support for this quirky control thing’. No, it doesn’t make the game better.”

“We are extremely open to innovation, but if it’s a gimmick, there’s no point unless it adds value to the player. Touch screens used to be a gimmick, because no-one could get it to work until iPhone came out and used it right. It adds to the experience, and now everyone is doing it. To us it’s the same with motion control and perceptual gaming in general; if it adds, great. If it’s a gimmick, ignore it.”

This guy, considering the genre he's in, his comments border on idiocy unless he is sectoring IR controls away from motion control. What's this about iPhones? iPhone launched several years after the DS.

Our grandkids will laugh when we say we watched stuff on screens.

The stupid ones will, certainly. That doesn't make it a good thing.

If they are any of OUR grandkids then I think it goes without saying they will be stupid.

RE: Criterion. Yeah, we've heard it all before.  Their last mid-life crisis was BLACK.  How'd that turn out?

Why can;t studios accept their gilt-lined handcuffs?  You don't see major sports stars deep into their career go, "You know what, fuck basketball, I want to be a hip hop megastar instead".

Oh wait....

Nevermind.  Actually it makes my point.

Played hours and hours of LEGO City, if you thought it was somehow only getting great reviews because there is nothing else to buy on U you would be mistaken. This is a fun gta style game, packed with things to do and quite polished too. You can stick to the campaign or let loose on the city. The great thing about the city is that it has gold bricks - think Banjo Tooie or Mario 64 and the environment is made so you have to platform or solve rudimentary puzzles to get to them. You have this metroid like scanner and can literally spend hours scouring the city for these gems. When you get them you can make super builds i.e special giant objects that usually open up the gameworld even more.

I just discovered Times Square and Miami strip like vice city in the game. You can insta-jack cars whilst in motion driving one car, straight to the next. The platforming and fighting is simple but satisfying. Even the trademark lego gameplay sections are fun. And there is free running in the city too.

Great fun, don't miss it.

On the down side there is minor aliasing and some moments of minor slowdown, it's not as funny as it could be and there is an eerie lack of music in the city just cruising about.

What is a HMD?   And PS4 being PS3 power is always a bad idea, we need to be moving forward, always. You can do both, you can move forward in graphics and new ideas too, they are not mutualy exclusive.

Now on VR this is way in the future, 20 years or so. At some point it will become standard in some way, probably not a giant helmet though.
