Interesting post from a developer on how they make the cutscenes in games look like real time:
If they were doing what we did, then they're really just talking about having a pool of 8 PS3 devkits available for rendering movies. Sure you could do it all with 1, but time is money.
We have a tool called the movie maker, that takes a scene in Maya, builds it as game data, renders it using the game engine, and then captures the output. It doesn't run at full frame rate, but like any offline renderer, draws, then captures a frame at a time. We then take those frames, and compress into an mpeg video stream.
We did this primarily to capture scenes that were either too complex to implement in real time (because our in-game cinematics tools sucked), or that didn't fit into the memory available on a retail unit. They are rendered using real game assets though, so that when you cut into them from the game and back, you can't see the joins. Well, unless you know what you're looking for. Like mpeg artifacts, or that the player character doesn't have the DLC costume on.
Not pulling the trigger just yet. I've got a big game lined up for July once Watch Dogs is finished.
I plan on purchasing it sometime but I still have to finish other games first.
I want to actually finish Xenoblade Chronicles before I get Xenoblade Chronicles X that might be my next playthrough in July or August. There is nothing on TV that I really want to watch during the summer so I have more time to play games.
So in Australia it's $179 at Kmart for the sky landers basic bundle which includes Nintendo land. Seems like there is an unofficial price drop of about $100 on the wii u basic. The premium is still $429 with mario kart. Considering mario kart can be had for an extra $58 stand alone it's a no brainer to get the basic. I also picked up mario 3D world and tropical freeze. I was just going to get kart and tropical freeze but what the hell, what's an extra $58 for something I'll get down the line anyway plus Nintendo games hardly ever get price drops. I will get new super mario bros u for the free download as that was probably my favourite game on the wii. So wii u plus 5 games for $350ish dollars is a great deal. Actually this year I was going to get a 3DS XL instead but I can't ignore this. Plus e3 has me really excited for next year.
I agree with a few of the posters above. Seems the only triple A games that are left are stuff from the big publishers and a lot of te games tend to be dumb downed in terms of gameplay mechanics. Also There's not really anything on the other systems coming out this year. I'll get Driveclub but that's probably about it. I feel like it's always better to wait on Nintendo systems and then buy it all in one go.
Yeeeeees PS3
Vader get this
