So the next PS4 firmware update will allow friends to create a virtual couch, you can play multiplayer games with friends even if they don't have the game. That is quite crazy.
Here's more on Share Play, directly from The PlayStation Blog.
The best way to think about Share Play is like a “virtual couch”. PlayStation 4 will create an online local co-op experience by allowing you to invite a friend to join your game—even when they don’t own a copy of it. With this first-of-its-kind feature, you’ll be able to play games with a friend just as if you were together in the same room. Let’s say that with games… you’ll be able to invite your friend online to play against the Miami Heat for the championship as the San Antonio Spurs in NBA2K, tackle the challenging Towerfall Ascension Quest Mode together, or aide, heal, and protect you as Igniculus in Child of Light’s local co-op mode.
With Share Play, you can even jump into a game to assist a friend. For example, if there is part of a game that you can’t quite finish, you can invite a friend to take over your controls. Like handing over the controller to a friend on your couch, your screen will be shared as your friend gets through the part of the game that has been giving you trouble—can’t get past that part in The Last of Us: Remastered when you’re hanging upside down? Get a little help.
This is a fantastic feature though who knows how helpful it will be. How many times do you and your friends not buy the same games and still want to play them. Maybe with older games that one friend keeps and the other sells. I am pretty sure everyone will be playing destiny on their own, or CoD, or Uncharted when that hits.
The option to try out and take over the controls for games I am more excited about. Its like going over a friends house and getting to try out a game you are curious about. And of course I can help some of you get passed hard parts if need be.
Ninja Theory has revealed the first details on its cancelled next-gen title
Razer, a game that would have seen players "come together to battle a monster that has taken over the planet".
Tweeting about the game from its GDC talk this afternoon, the developer said that it began prototyping new ideas for a PS4/Xbox One title shortly after the release of DmC: Devil May Cry, including a system for "online melee combat".
"We took the concept around to publishers but it wasn't picked up. We then prototyped a next-gen title, aiming to hit the AAA required feature list. This game was called Razer."
Unfortunately, though, Razer "didn't survive the greenlight process", leading to its termination.
Reflecting on the project's cancellation, the developer added that "the conditions of the AAA market mean that creativity can be restricted", but that it will be "sharing all of the Razer materials, including all design documents, online next week".
The studio's new "independent AAA game" will be revealed later today at Gamescom.
AAA
The whole point of AAA games was stuff like Ocarina Of Time, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7, Halo, etc.....stuff with insane production values AND amazing innovation/creativity. Seems like all it means today is production values.
That is fucking retarded....I wonder how much money they're getting for it?
I really hate exclusives like this....its a 3rd-party franchise that's been multi-platform since 2006, and at times before that on Dreamcast, and has always been more of a Playstation series than anything else. I have no doubt the game if released at the same time on both consoles would sell 3 times better on PS4, so I hope fucking their fans is worth it for them. With the way these consoles are going, there's no way in hell they would pick Xbone over PS4 naturally.
I hope this isn't going to be Microsoft's answer going forward to bad Xbone sales.....just buy up 3rd-party games. Shit like that is just lame to me. If they wanna fund NEW IP's that's fucking great, but don't go and buy up established franchises.
I already have TR Definitive Edition on the PS4. There's no way I'm buying this game on the Xbone. I'll wait for the port of this "exclusive" 3 months later.
“We consider all of you to be the lifeblood of Tomb Raider and the work we do at Crystal,” he said. “I'd like to give you some insight into this decision, and why we feel this is the very best thing for the Tomb Raider sequel we're creating at the studio.
“Tomb Raider in 2013 was a success due in large part to your continued support. Our goal has always been to deliver something truly special with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Today's announcement with Microsoft is one step to help us put Tomb Raider on top of action adventure gaming.
“Our friends at Microsoft have always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and have believed in our vision since our first unveil with them on their stage at E3 2011. We know they will get behind this game more than any support we have had from them in the past – we believe this will be a step to really forging the Tomb Raider brand as one of the biggest in gaming, with the help, belief and backing of a major partner like Microsoft.
“This doesn't mean that we're walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.
“We know that there are probably many more questions and concerns. Please do send them to us, and we'll answer to the best of our ability. Meanwhile we're going all out to try and make something truly special - the most ambitious Tomb Raider game ever built.”
I hope this isn't going to be Microsoft's answer going forward to bad Xbone sales.....just buy up 3rd-party games.
Anyone remember the rumour before the consoles launched, that MS was behind on first party development and were buying up exclusivity of multiplats? We could see more of this.

"It's a pretty dated portrayal of women, to be honest, but it's worth noting that distracting guards with magazines of scantily clad females has long been a series staple for Metal Gear, so this is hardly anything new."
On the topic of Microsoft's Womb Raider, I have to think that it's timed, in which case I don't mind, I'd have waited for hte PC version anyway.
If MS was serious about this long term they would get back into the studio business like Sony has and buy up 20 or so development houses. There are plenty available, hell, they could get David Cage's shop, Ninja Theory, Crystal Dynamics and a hand-full of Japanese studios for under a billion.

Don't give them any ideas.
They can't buy Japanese studios.....Japanese studios don't sell themselves to western companies. But Japanese companies have no problem buying up western studios and blaming them for their poor performance.....*cough....Squeenix....cough*
Sony conference in 10 minutes at 17:00 UTC.
I will be eating, not watching. I'ts my turn to cook.
PC version.
In before Edgecrusher!
I want to believe.
So you guys are fans of the Arkham games right?
Well DC just released this movie, which is a precursor to Asylum. Anyone going to watch it?

Uh, not sure if want. Is this a PS4 exclusive? Where's BGE2?
It seems as if MGS's cardboard box has been upgraded. Bloody hilarious if you ask me

So it's dated, and also nothing new? Cool.
Lauren Bacall just died.
