To me, the end of Shenmue 2 was like a long epilogue, which was nice, but not something I would want extended further into a 3rd game. So Suzuki put it on DC for sword fights but didn't get around to swordfighting for 2 games. LOL

So what would happen, they come out of the cave they went in and Lan Di is already there having just landed in his mech suit, eager to get the sword and surprised to see Ryo who then goes all thundercats HOOOOOOOOOO mode with his new weapon and cuts off Lan Di's arm cannon just as it's about to fire? They'd at least have to stroll to Bailu Village before action ensues... And then it would be good old exploration, meeting people, fighting, and occasionally laying back in some temporary shelter with Shenhua and/or others where more talking could occur.

No, what threw me was that Suzuki said he wanted the third game more internal and then used the Shenhua conversations as an example. I don't think anyone wants to play a game like the last sections of Shenmue 2.

Shenmue 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, that game when you landed in Hong Kong, it just expanded so much on Shenmue 1. I want bigger concepts. Not sure if I would like mystical stuff unless it was only implied and not spelled out.

Maybe if 3 came a year after 2 they could skip to Bailu Village right away with just a short cut scene, but with so much time inbetween they could even start with the ending parts of 2 fully recreated and altered for the new system, like the Back to the Future movies start with the end of the last one. I don't see much wrong with having more internal dialogue as long as they get a decent voice actor. Ryo's mostly out on revenge so far, reflecting on himself and growing as an actual character before the final showdown would make some sense. So far he's only stopped to think when it was required by the various martial arts masters who taught him stuff, mostly in 2.
