Welcome to the club. And it's hitting here this Saturday. Of all the weird days...
...
Or someone will release it early. Most likely case.
So today I have driven a car for real for the first time. Me and my sister went to Ikea in Delft and we used Green Wheels (basically a Rent-A-Car) to get there. The gear shifting kinda felt loose and the clutch did not feel responsive, but I had no problem controlling the car. I am used driving though horrible roads when taking driving lessons, a trip to Delft is easy for me.
Everything went smooth until we went back home and tried to parallel park. You need to park the car in the exact same space you picked it up. Only problem was that the parking section was right after a cross section and it was pretty busy. Again no problem, but the other drivers acted like cunts. Never giving me room to back up and park the car. One idiot actually picked someone up and he kept waiting behind me! What the fuck are you doing, I am trying to park the car and you are blocking my way!
Also some idiot left his bicycle on in the parking space giving me even less space to park. Then you had cyclist and pedestrians blocking the way occasionally too. Eventually I let my sister get out of the car and give me directions so that I knew how much space I had. After touching the bike behind me (gently with my car, no damage to the bike or the car, should have just picked up the bike and threw it in the pound) and nearly hitting the car in front of me, I finally had the car parked.
It would be a lot easier if other drivers did not act like asses and try to pass me while parking or blocking me. If you just wait 30 seconds so I can park the car in peace it would be a lot quicker for everyone.
I learned two lessons today.
1) Never get that particular Green Wheel, get another one is a place where it is more quit and you have more space.
2) If you have to park somewhere, where it is busy. Block the whole fucking road before you start. People will try to squeeze by otherwise.
^ I have driven for 21 years now, and I have never had to parallel park. For that, I am thankful.
I park like a fucking boss. Driving here in Mexico will hone your skills to god tier levels.
I was parralel parking in primary school.
If I were to be driving in Mexico to the one fridge in Veracruz, what skills do I need to pick up and master asap?
You need to master the skill of cursing first. It's an art to greet every single cab and bus driver with elaborate, almost baroque expletives involving a goat, his mother and the mother of his mother.
Next thing you have to master is the art of imperviousness. Let no honk nor insult change the way you drive.
And finally, you'll develop the eye of perception. The one that lets you know that the tiny spot that seems more appropriate for a bike is more than enough for your 4-door sedan. The same one that shows you the path of least resistance between pedestrians, fruit stalls, fat traffic officers, rude cab drivers and road workers that take more time in fixing a 2 block street than what it took to build the fucking pyramids.
Steel is on a RAAAMMMPAAAAGE!
Thank you sir. This is a bit unfortunate though.... I traded in my DSi and can't do the swap now. Silly me, I thought Nintendo would let me redownload them, rather that make me do a wireless transfer between the two of them. *facepalm* Oh well, not the worst thing in the world. There were only two games on there that I wanted to transfer that I can't get now. Most of the other games were inelligible to transfer like Oregon Trail. And my daughter still has her DSi so I can steal the Mario vs. Donkey Kong game from her later.
At some point maybe, but not right now. It just doesn't strike me as a Mario game I want to play. I played a few levels at Gamestop's demo and it didn't excite me.
I told myself I wouldn't start other games before finishing SS but dead Wiimote batteries forced me to try out some PC games. Skyrim runs pretty well on my lowly rig with high to medium settings across the board, seemingly better than Oblivion (which wasn't made to use multicore CPUs I guess) so far. The game seems quite good, improved in all the right ways to some degree. The environment design and lighting and actual shadows and all the extra fog/cloud/whatever effects make the average scene look a lot better than Oblivion. I hope performance doesn't go downhill in later areas, I'm just in the first decent city called Whiterun after wandering about random wilderness and clearing a few caves/dungeons/hideouts. Combat is solid enough (as a warrior for now, I might go Paladin style and invest in Restoration too) and I got used to the bleh menus after spending some time buying, selling and crafting too. I think I'll spend many hours in this one.
That's not to say it's perfect of course, I've barely scratched the surface and there are already some silly things to see, like the way some wildlife (deer, rabbits and a fox I found while wandering) hopelessly attempts to flee yet sometimes runs parallel to or facing you, I think the AI in Oblivion was more effective in doing that. And some crazy hillbillies attacked me over killing a damn chicken. That's a bit over the top.
Arkham City on the other hand starts out so boring I have no issues putting it off. I'm sure it gets better though.

New weeeeek. What have you lads been playing?
Clocking probably 20 hours or so in Skyrim. I've only seen two cities so far, and have spent my time smithing, mining, harassing giants and looking for dragons.
Revisiting Dragon Age, thanks to being gifted the Ultimate edition on Steam. It has Awakening and all DLC, which I missed when I played and beat DA: O on 360. Now I'm rolling an elven rogue so it's like a completely different game. Pure RPG goodness.
Pretty much put UMvC3 on the shelf this weekend. I'll still play it with friends, but I got it out of my system for now. Plus the level of people playing it online is just too far and above my head for me to be competitive. So now that I've put that aside I'll fill the time with my 3DS and Devil Survivor: Overclocked. I originally gave up on that game halfway through it, so now I have incentive to start over and finish it. Plus I've had fun corrupting America's youth with it too. I'll explain that in a blog later tonight or tomorrow.
Love that game. Easily the best thing Bioware's done that's not called Baldurs Gate II.
