Completed the W101 demo again, like 6th time. It's actually a pretty awesome and unique game. It looks confusing till you play for half an hour to get it down. Basically just imagine your group is one character, which moves, attacks and jumps like a single character. The formations you shape are just weapons, a sword, a gun and a massive fist. In style it's like Viewtiful Joe, from the top it looks a little like Pikmin but it's just a slick looking beat em up at heart. Very addictive too and fun and as challenging or easy as you want it to be.
What?
You only gave it an 8.0, so you obviously disliked it.
lol, 8 is great.
Look at GG
Platinum is merely average this gen. Yeah I said it, Bayonetta is not my thang.
Says the man who now loves W101.
I tried the demo, for the first run, maybe even the second you will be totally lost. The game does a bad job of really explaining how you should play. Its confusing cause you have a bunch of dudes and it looks like pikmin but you cant really control each one. Just pretend you are one big blob dude. The key to the combat is the unite mode where you draw a shape and hit the unite button to transform into a giant fist, sword or gun. The bigger you draw the shape (and if you have enough dudes with you) the more powerful the attack. The fun really begins when you start doing multiple unite modes at once, you can draw another shape and hit the attack button and have more dudes doing auto attacks around the level while you are still in control of another shape. Mix in dodges and a deflection block move and now you have classic Kamiya action.
You have to keep moving, the action is extremely frantic with enemies coming from everywhere and big guys with attacks that blow up your bubble. When it all comes together its a beautiful mess of action, getting platinum ranks is every bit as fun as something like bayonetta. In fact the scoring system is identical to bayonetta and so is the level structure, complete with hidden ranked battles in each level too. Everything is exploding, there is carnage everywhere, its all a big spectical but the cartoony graphics doesnt convey that same level of destruction as Bayonetta did.
Give the demo a shot but give it multiple tries until you have a grasp of the combat. Yes its weird, you have to draw stuff while keeping an eye on the super fast action but its doable.
That was your comment in my vanquish review. W101 and Bayonetta are very similar its just sort of presented differently. The same skill set is needed.
And for the record I never said Platinum games were average (though some truly are). What I did say was that they always look amazing at first glance, but never quite live up to that promise. And I stand by that statement.
That being said, I do think Wonderful 101 is going to be a lot of fun. I've gone through my second play of it, and now I at least understand what the hell is going on, and it's very entertaining.
Damn it, where is Iga when you need him.
Guess now's as good a time as any! Been trying to force myself to --RELAX-- this weekend, to that end, I've been playing ALOT of games!

What about you, Warriors of the Wang Dynasty?
Oh! I did play some of this too:
Metroid meets Minecraft or Terraria is being very generous. Metroid meets Mr. Digger is close... The game is good. Plays well enough. There's NO building component. That's what I thought when I heard the Minecraft comparison. It's simple. There seems to be very few enemies. There's nothing wrong with it, really... I just think it's getting a lot of praise because the developers have been very vocal on websites (like GAF) and very humble. When you get devs that actually take the time to talk to gamers, their games tend to be better received and reviewed than those that don't have contact with the public. There's nothing wrong with that; I think more devs should get more CONSTRUCTIVE input from gamers... I'll have to play it more to get more in depth impressions, but right now, not in the same league as a real Metroid game, but not a bad game at all either.
You know I had been wondering about SteamWorld Dig. It certainly looked cool if nothing else. Until it comes onto PSN or Wii U's eShop I wouldn't be touching it anyway.
And as far as what I'm playing I finished Pikmin 3 today. I've messed around with the Wonderful 101 demo (fun but still undecided if I'll purchase it or not). And Tuesday.... Tuesday will be magnificent. DuckTales Remastered!!
I've only played:
Angry Birds: Kindle Fire HD Edition.
I have been playing mostly the same stuff I played last weekend......fuck I miss the day when I could plow through big games in 4 days.
Playing a ton of Pikmin 3...its almost done. I just had something bad happen and had to turn the game off in anger. I also just got my 1st ever Miiverse Moderation for posting "strategic information" in a pic of the game...all it was, was a cutscene...whatever. LOL....I think it had more to do with the fact that I mentioned Halo in the post.
Also still playing through Grand Theft Auto 4...really enjoying it as I haven't played the game at length in years....maybe since it came out? Still one of the best games of the generation. The worlds in these games are just so much more immersive than most others of any type. I think I'm going to hold off on GTA 5 as hard as it is....I know they will release a PC version and I have no doubt it will be worth the wait. Plenty of other stuff to play in the meantime so hopefully I can resist.
