I don't have a single creative bone in my body. If the kid has some kind of talent he wants to explore, I'll do whatever it takes. I know it's only a video game, but the kid's been near savant when it comes to building, deconstructing and putting things back together... He's suddenly taken a huge creative turn and is fascinated with the whole idea of building anything, even Mario levels.
3-400 people at a COD launch (at any launch) is pretty amazing.
Did they ban them? I remember that when I was growing up every Australian enjoyed a gaytime on hot summer weekends, especially at the beach with the kids.
Last sighting was several years ago. They hadn't even changed the name, unlike FAGS; once a candy cigarette, now a "Fun Stick"---which is an equally good subtitle for FAGS.
The perfect storm school week of a full moon and Halloween is now over. I'm looking forward to a normal week next week.
Just went to save the pilot in Tomb Raider.
Decent game but I was expecting the second coming of Christ given the praise and GOTY awards. It's okay and generally enjoyable. I do find it quite pretentious, quite often and every moment when the game takes away direct control over the character, lessens the overall impact of the gameplay to me.
These moments come off as posturing and pretensious and also - gaming for babies. I don't need or want the game to tell me step by step what to do at every turn. QTE instant death reloads... need to die too. Cinematic moments which pepper the whole game, where the camera swerves somewhere or else, again disengage me from the game and the controls.
I'm feeling that vibe like Vaders first impressions playing the game - where all games feel the same now. It feels like Assasins Creed mixed with a little RE4. Is this what Uncharted is like?
The aiming sucks, there's no getting past that, it sucks. It really sucks. The stealth is ass, what is the point of stealth segments when you have no stealth tools or even decent controls for it? If this had SC Blacklist controls, sure, good times. As it is, no.
The gun fights usually go like this: stand there, feebly trying to align the cursor up with an enemy while other enemies annoyingly throw an endless stream of molotov cocktails at you. So the only way to play it is to back far off and sniper kill with the bow.
The game is generally brown or grey or pitch black - enemies blend into the background like camoflage meaning you have to use that filter to even see them. Another thing I hate about modern games, where the distinction between what you can interact with or not is blurred to the point where things you think you should be able to interact with aren't. And you have to play half the game with some metroidy filter to even see where you are supposed to be going or what you are supposed to interact it.
On that point, there are so many buildings and so many doors, but I cannot open a single door. This pisses me off in all games.
These are nitpicks, I still find the game decent and enjoyable but I'm not feeling the AAA vibes here, no matter how many ziplines Lara zips down.
Also the developers intention to make you sympathise with Lara by beating her about is comical - to the point where she feels like an indestructible crash test dummy. The story is pure wank too, you're stranded on an island...... that's about it - and asshole men walk about trying to shoot you with arrows. Highly unbelievable too is the intention of stranded agressive males on a deserted island to brutally murder at the drop of a hat, an attractive girl in her 20s.
And they just introduced the maniac leader and he sounds hilariously bad.
Haven't mentioned this, but my back issues have lead to me to take a short leave from work. With all this extra time on my hands, I've actually been playing some of the games I've had all year but never had time to devote to them. The Witcher 3 is the one that's really hooked me though. Two things I wanna mention about this game:
(1) It's in the littlest details I am most amazed. I came across an Undiscovered Location on the map. It was one of those 'People in Distress' types. There was a man locked in a cell in a house surrounded by bandits. Killed the bandits, freed the man and he said something like: "Thanks, Witcher! Next time you're in Mulbrydale, I'll give you something for your trouble." I thought to myself: "I have no idea where this place is."
We were in the middle of nowhere when I saved this guy, but I noticed something odd when we parted ways. He started walking off, on the road, into the distance. I never paid much attention to people after I freed them. I assumed they just walked a few feet, out of visual range and blinked out of existence like most game NPC's. I decided to follow him to see if what I had an inkling could happen, would. I tailed him for a good 5 minutes or so as he walked, wondering where his path was going to end. Thinking he would walk off or disappear at any moment. NOPE! He walked right from his place of capture, BACK to Mulbrydale!! He walked through the streets of his town, went back to his blacksmith shop, picked up his hammer and started working!! This was not a Quest. This was not a main character. This was just some random dude I saved on the roadside... AND THE GAME IS INTELLEGENT and DETAILED enough for him to find a path back to his town and resume his work!! It didn't PROMPT me to follow him!! This was a completely UNSCRIPTED event!! Many games CLAIM to have this level of detail in their world and NPC characters, but I've NEVER seen something as intricate as this!
(2) If you haven't played Witcher in a while and the way Geralt controls bothers you... DID YOU KNOW THEY MADE AN ALTERNATE CONTROL SCHEME WHERE the whole heavy-momentum, physics-based style of movement is REPLACED WITH A MORE GAME-ISH, LIGHTER and FASTER control style? Yup! Go to the Options, look for 'Alternate Controls' and be amazed as the Witcher plays like any other third-person open world game!! I didn't dislike the original scheme because, well, that's the way The Witcher plays... but switching to the new scheme made it play like a WHOLE NEW, FASTER GAME!! Again...
I just found my new screensaver!
My memories begin with Opa Opa...
...but know their history before that era!
I really need to get back to playing The Witcher 3, fantastic game. I am hypnotized by Ciri's ass.
What does everyone else think of the way they show you the face behind the visor of every Spartan in Halo, except for Master Chief?
I don't really dig it. To me, that's what made the spartan's so mysterious and fearful in the first place, was not knowing who or what they were. Now its like they feel too human I guess, and too vunerable. At any rate, Halo 5 is done. Not blown away by any stretch, but its a solid FPS. Yet another cliffhanger ending. Do you think there will be a Halo 6?!
Probably near the end of XBO's cycle.
