Thanks guys. I'm having to isolate with her so I've essentially got covid too by now. Small house. I can feel something developing at the back of my throat.

It looks like we dodged a bullet yesterday. Microsoft announced that they were increasing the cost to subscribe to Gold and would have doubled the price for 12 months from $60 USD to $120 USD. No doubt they wanted to push people to just subscribe to Game Pass as that is the much better deal. The backlash was so swift and severe that they then announced that they won’t do that in the very same day. No doubt if this had gone over then Sony and Nintendo surely would have seen the opportunity to increase their prices as well.
Not only that but they also announced that a Gold subscription was no longer needed to play free to play games.
I read about that yesterday and wondered what the hell were they thinking.
They wanted people to just go and subscribe to Ultimate which didn’t have a price increase. Ultimate has Gold, xCloud, and Game Pass. They figured that if Gold looked like such a worse deal then Ultimate people would say, “Oh well I’ll just switch to an Ultimate subscription.”
I understand the motives, but I'm not sure this is the year or economy to try and raise your prices. maybe the thought was people were paying so much for a new console, but they could sneak the extra charge in there and no one would really mind?
Sounds like someone at MS wanted to test the waters at eventually merging live with Gamepass and that blew up in their face. Still their goal will be to get everyone on an Xbox to subscribe to gamepass.
I kind of think that they figured this would actually be a good time to do this given the circumstances lately. I don’t think that cared about getting any extra money from the increase, they just wanted people to go to the Ultimate subscription and on Game Pass by any means necessary. Still a really dumb move though that definitely backfired big time.
Has there ever been anything that a company has reversed course on this fast before?
Sorry to hear that, GG. Fingers crossed you'll both fine!

It's a delight to read someone being so passionate about it, and as a gamer to fully understand why they feel so fondly about it.
Wishing you both a speedy recovery.

Yep, same company. Remember DRM?
