Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed this Thursday, January 16, it’s claimed.

That’s according to the previously reliable Podcast Nate the Hate, which claims that a reveal trailer planned by Nintendo will focus on the Switch 2 hardware, with a software showcase coming later in late February or early March.

“I can share with you that Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in the coming week… I have been told Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16… just a few days from now,” they said.

“I’ve heard that the reveal itself is going to focus almost exclusively on the console itself. There is not going to be any presence of games. There could be a game shown running on the screen, depending on how the trailer is put together, but software is not going to be a focus.”

The two-part reveal plan would align with how Nintendo showed the original Nintendo Switch, and match with what VGC has been told

Nate the Hate speculates that Switch 2 could launch in May or June of this year – which matches with what VGC has heard from its own sources – and that a new version of Mario Kart could be available at launch, followed by a 3D Mario released during the holiday period of 2025.

Third-party releases will reportedly include Final Fantasy 7 Remake. According to Nate the Hate, Ubisoft is planning to release Assassin’s Creed Mirage for Switch 2, and Konami will port Metal Gear Sold Delta.

Update: Eurogamer has corroborated the January 16th reveal date, as well as info that the reveal will be “a focus on the much-leaked console itself, rather than a deep dive into its software line-up”.

Yeah it was one of the least appealing part of the game. They wanted no HUD evidently so pulling up the map and compass constantly, which took you out of the game, was in my mind a lessor alternative.

How about discord? They make it easy and the way I see it it's the primary mode or game streaming? I'm not even a casual expert on the mater though.

maybe? I've used discord a couple times, but I really have never understood it. In all honesty, I've never really taken the time to understand it either, but the idea that I have to take time to understand it is makes me not very interested.

The streaming part is really easy, but yeah I also have not invested the time in figuring out the forum like chat side of it. It must work, millions of people use and prosper from it. I use it for the podcast which is really quite usefull and easy.  I was hoping that in the unlikely event this place falls apart technically (like browsers banning unsecured sites) that would be the alternative, as that is where most community forums have ended up. But not sure what the feasible adoption rate would be ...  I may have to set up a forum at gameunder if that happened for all us old timers who cannot figure out discord or don't want to rely on the whims of corporate overlords.

I don't think all these Steam Deck-like handheld pc's will put a dent in the succes of the next Switch.  Those handhelds aim at a very specific niche of the market, being people who are big enough into PC gaming to want such a device and who aren't such snobs as to put up with the 'inferior' hardware for the benefit of portability.  If anything, I think small form factor PC's with Valve's own operating system will pose more of a threat to actual home consoles.  That and Nintendo could easily dominate for 20 more years on household name alone.

I agree. though I think the piece of the pie this time around for Nintendo will be smaller.

That said, I don't see the switch 2 steamrolling everything like its predecessor did. I think it's going to do well, and outsell its competition, but it's not going to be contending for the best selling system of all time.

It'd be interesting to know the division of switch owners by age.  I'm thinking that all adults who got one would be real gamers, so will eventually upgrade (unless they get a Steam Deck).  There'll be an age bracket of kids who have now 'outgrown' gaming, but these should be replaced by kids who were too young during the Switch's lifespan.  The only market I could see Nintendo really losing is that of parents who bought their kids a Switch and don't see the point of ever upgrading that.

Yes this. But I do see lder gamers igrating to steam deck but i am biased by my own exp

I've been playing Super Mario RPG remake. I've underestimated how challenging this game would be. Some of these battles go on much longer than I expected.

Welp.  I will probably not have the patience for it.

It's actually not as difficult as I initially thought. I was playing it wrong. Once I raised a few levels and figured out the timing for blocking and getting the extra hits in battle, it became much easier.

Ive beaten it about 4 times and not found it hard at all

Last I heard Steamdeck had sold 5 million.

Switch is at or nearing 130 million.

I think a dedicated Sony or MS handheld would do well.

But they might then face the same problem Nintendo had with delivering games to a home console and handheld.

I thought Switch was near 150 million and that that was probably why Sony updated their PS2 numbers.

I updated the list of rumoured Switch 2 games in the thread courtesy of IGN.

I just remembered the Robocop game, I would like to play that. Did anyone try it?

Also I really want Syberia the World Before.

Did anyone play the Broken Sword remake yet? I'm waiting on a physical release.

Sony should do another production run of PS2 systems just to spite Nintendo. Nyaa I bet they'd sell millions. I'd buy one.

The PS2 mini perhaps? You know if they hadn't completely botched the PS1 mini, I could see that happening.

I could use a new PS2 as well. I don't trust my current ones to last much longer.

If you have one with the HDD bay, you can buy a special PS2 memory card on Amazon that allows you to rip all of your PS2 disks to the internal HDD and play the games off the HDD; no disk needed after theme ripping process. Spawnwave on YT has a video about it. Might help your system to last longer.
