How much would you guys pay for GTA 6?

There was a story yesterday that some company or financial analyst saying Rockstar charging $100 for GTA 6 would be the impetus for publishers to raise game prices to that level for AAA games going forward.

For some reason $100 = £100 even though that not the exchange rate wtf.

I don't think I would ever pay that much for a game.

What's the most expensive game you've ever bought?

Mine was an imported version of Streetfighter 2 Turbo on SNES from Japan for £90. I was a kid so I didn't have cash, but I traded in a shit load of games for it.

When Yakuza 2 was not going to be released in the US I thought it was a good idea to buy the Japanese version and a Japanese Playstation 2. Uh huh. That's how dumb I usd to be (with money), I'm still dumb in every other respect. Geez, Probably $100 for the game and at least $250 for the console.  So that would be the most expensive game I've ever bought.

Maybe not, I think I paid a fair bit for Tengen Tetris, Snatcher for Sega CD and Panzer Dragoon Saga...

Was there no disc or something that allowed you to play Japanese games on a western ps2?

Those would fit very well on there for sure.

I think I only ever rented Nuts and Bolts back in the day.

Kameo was very average.

I have a soft spot for Kameo. It was the first X360 game I played. Its graphics still hold up well and is still fun to play. It's flawed for sure.

All Switch2 needs is the new Monster Hunter with crossplay.

It was one of the first games I played on the 360 as well. Really enjoyed it and dug the look of it.

I’d be very surprised if Monster Hunter Wilds wasn’t on the Switch 2.

I think the most I've paid for a game was $80 to get my hands on a used copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy after its limited release. Couldn't tell you how much I paid for N64 games, though -- it's just been too long. I keep hearing they were more expensive than 50 USD, though.

If I'm really wanting a new game in a future in which the standard price is 70 USD, I'd pay it. Until then, I'll work on my big backlog and wait for sales. I'm just glad my excitement levels for new games don't run high. No, my drug is nostalgia, unfortunately.

I would not have even thought to do something like that. I was in a weird Japanese store, I saw yakuza 2, the PS2 and a KK Slider plushie and I had no other thought than to buy them on the spot.

I have a Freeloader disc for GameCube.  Works perfectly.  I thought I had lost it a few year ago, but it recently popped up again.  Just as well, as my Japanese Panasonic Q is slowly dying.

I seem to remember Nintendo giving some special discount on Prime trilogy digitally. Unless I'm going mad.

(RUMOR) Astral Chain 2 development info, why Kamiya left Platinum and Astral Chain 2 game info

https://www.resetera.com/threads/rumor-astral-chain-2-development-info-why-kamiya-left-platinum-and-astral-chain-2-game-info.1089660/

The project for a sequel to Astral Chain was quickly mooted in the studio, and pre-production of the project was launched early 2021, but it very VERY quickly came up against a number of internal problems. Most of the people working on the project were required to work on other things ( notably two games that were in development hell at this time, no further info on that ), which meant that the project stagnated for a very long time, at least 6 months without any progress.

To make matters worse ( don't know if this is still true today ), the studio started to have serious money problems and had to make major budget cuts at all levels, for example the human resources department was deprived of lighting for few MONTHS.

But fortunately in 2022, thanks to Hideki Kamiya the project was finally able to get back on track and go into full development at the same time as Steel Colossus ( I don't know if this game is still alive ) thanks to substantial investment from third-party companies.
But very quickly (still in 2022), a sales representative from Nintendo will settle into the studio. After several months, major disagreements will begin to emerge between the key decision-makers and Kamiya, ultimately leading to his departure from the studio the following year.
Nintendo themself reboot Astral Chain 2 project after significant delays and money being recklessly spent by Platinum Games. I don't know if this was always the case, but from that point onward, the game was planned as a title for the Nintendo Switch 2.

This is all the information I have about the game. WARNING: This information dates back to before its reboot in June 2023:
The game was intended to be a direct sequel to the first, featuring the same protagonists (with the option to transfer save data from the first game for customization).
The main antagonist was planned to be a wealthy businessman with a robotic/legion arm named Maxwell (マクスウェル様).
The game was supposed to feature branching paths, leading to radically different chapters. I dont know whether this also meant multiple endings.
One of the early levels (not the first but among the first) was set to take place on an aircraft carrier off the coast of the city.
Among the new Legions, there was to be an angel with blade-like wings and a tiger/sphinx-like creature. Players would have been able to temporarily fuse their Legions with elemental powers (fire, water, earth, air). A small selection of the Legions from the first game was planned to make a return.
Several adaptive shader technologies, which were somewhat experimental, were in development.
The feature allowing two-player gameplay was planned to return but with greater depth.
The game's story wasn't even completed during this phase of development, but discussions about a third installment were already taking place.

I have no news about the game after its reboot, but it's far from reassuring.
All I know is that Platinum was engaging in discussions to retain the game's development, as Nintendo was threatening to hand the project (or part of it) over to another external studio they were in contact with. Unfortunately, I have no further details on this matter. The situation at Platinum Games is truly dire, and I wouldn't be surprised if, in a few years, we start seeing people speaking out publicly about what's been happening. Have a good day. I will delete my account in the next couples of hours.
