I got to admit, I knew there was going to be a lot of weird shit going on this year. But a murder mystery around Gene Hackman was not on my bingo card.

Read in my national news article that the maintenance worker who discovered their bodies found the home’s front door ajar but no signs of forced entry. Gene was found in the kitchen and Arakawa and the dog were found in the bathroom with pills from a prescription bottle scattered on the counter. Both appeared to have fallen suddenly to the floor but neither showed signs of blunt force trauma.

I heard they had other dogs which arrived still alive. The dead one was found in a closet.

Anyone else with an Xbox Series console have issues with quick resume locking up? Seems to happen to me on a daily basis now. Really annoying

To be honest I don’t think I’ve ever used it yet. I’ll have to try it later on to let you know.

Have you tried doing a full power recycle?

It might be a glitch with older 360 games since I've been playing Banjo, Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero. Switching between them causes one of them to get stuck on the Quick Resume loading screen. I may have to disable the feature, which is a shame since it's quite nice when it works well.

Yup. Several times. I always power off my Xbox when I'm not using it too.

I'd forgotten how bullet spongy PD Zero' enemies are, especially the ones with the breakable body armor.

It's still possible the carbon monoxide escaped, but that being said, I do agree it's kind of weird. Plus, one they've now said that only one of the dogs died. Apparently there were some others.

People do some crazy shit due to carbon monoxide poisoning. I've read stories of people who can't account for hours of their lives.

I watched a video of someone who slowly lost oxygen to the brain (it was a training video done by the UK Air force (RAF technically) under controlled conditions). Once you lose even a small amount of oxygen to the brain your capabilities drop to that of a toddler.

Your console is simply refusing to play shitty games. It's a favour. 😅

Am several hours into Monster Hunter Wilds now and having a great time with the game. Gameplay is fantastic. Really digging the focus mechanics, wounds, and targeting those wounds with a power attack. Using Great Sword right now and hitting a monster with a charge move just as they attack feels amazing when you knock them back. Love the game world with its weather shifting mechanics. Monsters are pretty cool and have been quite fun to fight so far. The slinger hook is a very nice addition. Makes harvesting much easier.

^Awesome. Is it easier? Might be a good thing for those with lower patience.

I'm 17 hours into Elderand and nearing the endgame boss.

Very cool metroidvania. In fact it's more of a 2D Castlevania replacement.

Brutal combat, chunky sprites. The last level even has an Awesome electric guitar solo strumming in the background. Game is larger than I expected.

I only wish I could sell the weapons, armour and shields I don't need. I don't need the cash, but having to scroll through underpowered gear to swap out equipment is mildy annoying.

I haven't experimented with magic staffs yet, but maybe on a second run.

I would say that it’s easier. Some of that comes with my familiarity with the games now though. Hunts feel shorter, at least early on right now.

Edit: I am still so very early into the game though so not sure how difficult things may get ultimately.

Edit 2: You can also call in some AI companions to help with the hunts and they seem capable enough.

Bought this game on sale called Black Skylands.

It's a mix of top down twin stick pirate shooter and you can pirate your ship about like AC4.

Played it for 10 mins. The controls are very unrefined compared to most games I played recently.

The viewpoint is top down birds eye view, like you're viewing the game from a drone directly above the main character. It's zoomed so far out it's difficult to see. Humans appear as a blob for the head with two blobs for the shoulders. It's going to take some getting used too. The controls feel, off somehow, not responsive enough or sure footed enough.

As long as the combat isn't too hard it shouldn't be a problem. The ship controls are weird though, you have to lead the ship from its nose and rotate it. It's almost like RE tank controls.

Story and atmosphere are fun so far. I'm hoping I'll get used to the controls and the game will get better. The reviews I saw seemed promising.

Well it's Sunday afternoon here so it's time for:

What Playing: Went away this weekend so got some quality time on Spiritfarer.  I've started using a notebook to keep track of the details, which has helped immensely.

What Reading: Reading about the philosophy of Stoicism, which seems right up my alley. Basically that you cannot control anything but your decisions and opinions and therefore worrying about or trying to influence anything other than that is a waste of mental energy.  I'm really digging it.

Podcast of the Week: Why are you Laughing. It's a history of comedy podcast each week the host takes a look at a comedian or a special and breaks it down.  I've gone back and listened to the whole catalog.

This Week I learned: As part of my healing I've started a very simple breathing exercise. Which is as close to meditation as I've ever been (or ever want to be at this point). But after getting healed through a few simple stretches and accupuncture I've opened my mind up to stuff I've always shoved in to the "hippy garbage" drawer.

Getting close to the end of Veilguard. It did pick up again almost immediately after I posted my previous impressions. Overhauling my skill build definitely helped. The missions get a bit more varied with the battles a bit more interesting.

It still has struggle with finding the sweet spot between drudgery and annoyance, but it does it better in the latter half of the game. The value is very much in its characters and storytelling, but what you get out of that is going to be dependent on whether it connects with you. If you're here for the action primarily, it's probably not a winner. But ultimately I don't think the action is a detriment. Feint praise, perhaps, but it's important.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile

RIP Hackman, the story is just plain weird though, you all didn't mention there was a mummified course, what?!

I have been playing RE4R VR which is incredible, just the most fun I've had in VR. Also finished Castlevania Curse of Darkness which I tried to play and finish many times over the years and due to a special mod I was able to get through it, still not that good, one of the worst CV games to me.

And I just started Soul Reaver HD, looks so good! Game is so old! Block puzzles! Who thought this was the best way to do puzzles in 3D. Why was that such a huge thing. Like someone was like "how do we use all this 3D space in games, oh I know, let's move giant ass blocks around slowly!"
