Little Inferno in the strictest sense could not be described as a game. Have you ever played Warioware or Rhythm Heaven? Sometimes those games have virtual toys to play with. Little Inferno is like one of those games only expanded with more depth to make something additive, suprising and delightful. So you get a virtual fireplace and a catalogue. You buy items from the catalogue, burn them and receive money for burning them. You use said money to buy more items and further unlock the catalogue. There are also combos. They are like riddles, a big list of riddles. A spring time combo for instance involves you buying a clock and flower and burning them together. Most are not as obvious as that though so you will have to studiously think about and analyse your catalogue to find the right items - and delight when you get it right. The fun of the game comes from the many items availible which react differently in physics, sound effects, visuals or animation. They also effect other objects, so a moon will pull other items around its orbit, an ice cube will freeze other items etc. One thing that is mildy bothersome is sometimes if the fire is too intense you cannot see the reaction of the object. The game is wrapped neck deep in Tomorrow Corporations' fantastic music, art and bemusing, whimsical writing. Most of the writing is pointless but ironic and smile inducing. The ending of the game was brilliant, I can't even put into words why, it just WAS. These guys should be making movies or animated shorts. You can see the ending after 4 hours but that does not mean the game is complete, I still have many combos to work out and I want to test out each item individually. I can see myself sinking another 3 hours minimum into this game. One note, buy it in the sale not at full price! Some people will probably bemoan Little Inferno "it's not a game!" etc. Others like me will delight in this whimsical, off kilter slice of fancy. I'm one of those people and the score does not neccesarily reflect the value I put in this title. |

It's on sale right now for $10 on the American eShop, and will be until sometime in January. I want to say January 3rd.

I just double checked and the $10 price is good until January 4th. Plenty of time.

Journey is fine. I dislike the idea that it is something so special it should be GOTY.
