Yes this game feels like a long lost old school Castlevania title. You even start the game in a garden making your way to giant castle. Sadly it doesn't feel as smooth or responsive as a Castlevania game.

The combat is combo heavy but basic one button combos, in reality just mash the square button and stuff happens. You have a few other moves that dont add much to the combat except for the gun which is like a quick kill move that you must replenish.  My main issue with the title is that you get stuck in animation and in a fast paced 2D sidescroller you should never get stuck in animation. I cant tell you how many times I get stuck in some combo string while I see another enemy ready to attack and my dash move, which is the only defense you have, refuses to work until the combo is over. Even jumping feels a tad bit off.

The combat gets repetitive fast as there are few enemy types and the way to kill them is always just mashing attack. Level backgrounds start to get repeated and even boss fights are repeated, thankfully they are are good fights. During the middle of the game I felt like I was on a treadmill just doing the same thing over again.

Somewhere around the 8th or 9th level you start to gain new abilities which actually makes platforming interesting. The last few levels are easily the best of the game as the levels themselves get interesting. These last few levels really saved the game for me as the combat was not doing it for me at all.

Its not great but it is a good 2D action game. There is a scoring system in place that can be very difficult to master but outside of that there isn't really any reason to replay.  Only hardcore 2D action fans should take a look at this one.
