I have to say that I expected very little from this game and got everything I could want from a gaming experience. The level of attention to detail and thought that went into the design of the game is obvious at every turn.

Darkwatch is a game that you would assume is licensed from some deep and storied comic book or television series, but from what I can tell, this game is all there is to the Darkwatch universe. You play western-style outlaw who, while on his last robbery, inadvertently releases the son of Satan. You spend the rest of the game as a possessed cowboy-vampire, trying to prove yourself to a group (the Darkwatch) that is fighting this evil, while doing what you can to remove the vampiric curse you are under.

The weapons in Darkwatch are varied and substantial, each with their own viscerally pleasing melee attack. The opponents are just as pleasing to fall, and have a Doom-esque quality about them. In fact, the game evokes the first classic first-person-shooter in many ways. A few novel levels require use of a vehicle or horse, but surprisingly the game never leans on these variations to spice up the action, indeed the game hardly needs them.

The graphics and sound are without complaint, in fact they are both very good.

Darkwatch provides an entertainingly, albeit brief, diversion from the usual FPS. At full price this game would be worth it, at any lessor price any FPS fan is obliged to buy.
