Dead light is a side scrolling zombie survival game. It controls sort of like a 2D prince of persia as there is lots of jumping and grabbing into ledges. You can attack zombies with an axe but that serve more to give you space. There are guns with limited ammo that allows you to kill some of them but most of these moments are clearly designed to use a gun, for instance you will always find ammo right before a big zombie fight. Most of the time you run around using the environment to get around the zombies. You can call the zombies to lure them into traps or off a ledge. The best part of the game is the second hour where it's almost all environmental puzzles, moving platforms and hitting switches kind of stuff. The game controls well, has a cool art style and could have been great but it's way too short. After three hours it is over and the last hour falls apart into way too much forced combat and avoids the more platforming puzzles. This leads to a huge increase in random instant deaths that become frustrating. It attempts to tell a story with a twist but anyone can see the twist coming from a mile away. It never feels like it finds it's footing, it never feels like a full game. I got it for free which is about as much as I would pay for it. |

I really wanted this game when it was first released because I loved the art and the look of the game but I never got it and I sort of got over it without ever playing it. I should do this with more games.

Yeah it was a fun little freebie but nothing I'd pay money for.
