Mass Effect 3's ending has taken the game world by storm for being crappy. Amazingly I did not hear much uproar about the ending to Killzone 3 which makes ME3s ending seem like Citizen Kane. Yeah I know, no one gives a shit about the Killzone storyline but this is so bad, so insulting to anyone with a functioning brain that it deserves mention. Anyway it ends terribly but it is good for a laugh. So how is the rest of the game then, well it is a mixed bag.

Killzone 2 was a really solid shooter with crazy mind blowing graphics at the time. I felt it had a good ebb and flow and stayed consistant throughout. Killzone 3 is all over the place offering some really interesting setpieces followed by ones that will lead to nothing but frustration.

The best moments come when the game focuses on a unique gameplay mechanic like say a jet pack with a well designed level around it. The well designed gun fights show the potential to be another solid FPS which is a shame cause many parts are so annoying they don't seem to fit. Sometimes these are very scripted moments like where you are supposed to hop on a gun turret and then 15 snipers blow your head off. The game told me to get on the turret, why am I being killed on it so quickly? Or bad vehicle segments where you really can't tell who is hitting you or why you die. The entire game feels like a giant FPS checklist that the developers made sure to check off every single gameplay cliche you can find.

This game supports the move which works very well but of course takes time to get used to. It doesn't add much to the game except added comfort and immersiveness if you enjoy using motion controls for FPSs which I do. The only game I can compare this game to in motion controls is Goldeneye Wii and I feel like Killzone 3 feels better.

The multiplayer is the major aspect of Killzone and Killzone 3 offers all the modes and leveling up you would expect. I did not spend much time on multiplayer but I can quickly say it is not as good as Killzone 2. Killzone 2 had a great class system with a balance that felt right. It lead to matches where I felt all classes were valuable. I did not get that feeling here. One of my favorite classes was the tactician which has been nerfed to hell. They used to be able to create spawn points for your team anywhere, now it can only be done in specific areas where you have to fight the other team for control over. That is called king of the hill, now there is a king of the hill battle going on in every map while the true match is going on. It's stupid.

This is such a shame cause there is a really good game somewhere in there. It has all the makings of a big well polished blockbuster without the qualities that makes the best games standout. Basically you have played a game like this before.

Good review, though I do think the campagin is better than 2's. What sticks in the mind from 2? The final boss battle, and not for the right reasons. There's a few set pieces from 3 that still stand out. Still incredibly mediocre campaign as a whole, though.

Multiplayer is completely ruined.

Sounds like a letdown.

Killzone 2 felt more balanced and it felt like it had its own identity. The cover aspect was really well done and the weight made the game feel better. I also remember that weapon distribution was more constant. KZ3 was just all over the place, to many ups and downs.
