Guardian of Light is one of the best downloadable titles you can get and in many ways its one of the game Tomb Raider games in years. The game is an action oriented top down shooter with puzzles mixed in. It's designed with co-op in mind but its still a ton of fun in single player. The controls are sublime, its so easy to move and jump all over with ease. Shooting is down with the right stick just like any twin shooter. Lara's arsenal includes all sorts of guns, rifles, rocket launchers which you gain as unlockables or they are found in hidden locations in the levels. You also have the ability to drop bombs which can be used in combat and to solve puzzles. The mix of puzzles and action is done so well, its why the game is so much fun. Besides battling all sorts of monsters, animals, and even dinosaurs you will be moving giant Indiana Jones style balls around to active switches, turn off traps and much more. Puzzles mix in plenty of platforming so that it still feels like Tomb Raider while controlling totally different. Everything is so fast paced, each room only lasts a minute or two so you are always moving onto the next puzzle, combat area or trap filled room. Each level has side objectives to complete like beat the level in a certain time, get a certain score and much more. The levels are a blast on their own, these objectives add a whole layer of replayablity to the game which is already like 7 hours long. The game is an absolute blast and well worth buying. The major issue I had was simply that the combat is simple as it is just a twin stick shooter. After running and flipping around while shooting for the hundredth time it gets old. Also the level design kind of repeats itself, it kind of feels like the game was intended to be shorter than it was. Those things can be worked out in the eventual sequel. Buy this now if you have not. |
