Unless you've been living under a rock this past holiday or was stripped away from all internet access because you were climbing K2, then you would know that Steam was having an insane deal on Torchlight which was going for a measly $5! In other words, "GET IT NOW!!!" Before the sale is over! Even though you missed the sale because *ahem* you're a console gamer and don't care about Steam or the PC, that's okay because this game is well-worth the $20 price tag. I bought it for $20 when it came out and it is one of the best games I've purchased all last year. Why is it so good? Because it's one of the best Diablo-clones ever made! But that's not really a compliment because the developers who made Torchlight are ex-Diablo vets. And these guys sure know how to make these types of games! Even though the familiarity is there and the game may do nothing new, there are still awesome touches that make this experience stand out. If you played Diablo II before than you'll feel right at home here. Virtually everything is almost the same. The controls, pacing, gameplay, loot, hacking and slashing, it's all here! This isn't a bad thing by any means because it also means the same addictive gameplay. But what gives Torchlight that extra touch is your pet companion that travels along with you on your adventure. You have the choice between a dog and a cat and they help you fight enemies, gather and carry items. I personally love the idea of having a pet companion by your side so this was a HUGE plus for me! The only criticism I have for this game is the game length, but having three classes and customization mean some replay value. Also, some may be disappointed that there's no multiplayer, but for me it's not a bad thing because the game is solid and very fun even playing alone. I really love this game because I'm a huge Diablo II and Titan Quest fan. I was very stoked when I found out that Torchlight doesn't have insane system requirements which made my decision to get this game a no-brainer. It's so light on the requirements that there's even a mode where you can play it flawlessly on your laptop. The graphics look like World of Warcraft and works effectively here. Who knows when Diablo III will come out. Knowing Blizzard they'll probably take another three years! Good thing games like Torchlight is available to give you that Diablo fix. I hope every fan of loot games pick this up! Like I said, get it on Steam while this sale is going on! It'll be one of the best games you'll buy this year! |
