Short review time. Like many portable versions of console games on the PSP or Vita this is just a watered down version of what we have become used to on the consoles. Much credit is due on the technical side as it looks stunning, almost as good as a PS3 game. The score is every bit as good as the console games. The voice acting is still top of the line and funny as hell. It is remarkable that we can play an Uncharted game in portable form. The game itself is easily the worst Uncharted game simply cause it is lacking in any major setpiece that usually break up the standard shooting. The action itself controls the same way, it might take a while to get used to the Vita sticks but it works well. What happens here is that the majority of setpieces are very specific, snipe here, stealth here, run and gun here. The best moments of Uncharted are when you get a large area and you get to choose how to dispatch a group of enemies, this does not occur until the last few levels. The platforming is the same which means it is still unremarkable. Due to the Vita's touch controls this game has the worst use of useless touch screen controls of any game this year. To cut certain paths you have to swipe in the direction the screen tells you, this also occurs in long fist fights. It's used in "puzzles" where you have to scrub an item or move puzzle pieces. For some strange reason these new devs decided to up the hidden treasures to nearly 4x the amount of the PS3 Uncharted games meaning useless crap is hidden everywhere just to create busy work. It's a shame this game didn't use the Vita's features in ways that could have improved the experience. Instead all the new ideas were wasted and the core gameplay was for the most part just an average imitation of what you get on consoles. Again I will say it is remarkable that we get to play a game like this on consoles but the technical side alone doesn't make a game great. It is a fine game that could be so much better. |

Sounds okay. Do you not value portable games differently from home console?

Yeah I kind of do GG, I dont expect them to be as epic I guess but i do expect them to do things differently. You know cater to their strength.

I guess for me, even if Golden Abyss was 15% worse on handheld, for a handheld game from a different developer I would be more forgiving. As long as it broadly kept true to the main games that is.

Holy shit. Who'd have thought that Uncharted's long and storied past reached all the way back to the Atari 7800. Amazing.
