Game #4 – Toy Story 3

Unless it's a Kingdom Hearts title, Disney licensed games are usually not particularly worth recommending. Not that they're bad or anything, but they never really rise above the crop. And it seemed that way for Toy Story 3, but there's a lot more to it than you think. In fact, playing it – it proves to be more than an average Disney title, and proves to be one of the better licensed titles of the year.

Toy Story 3 is split up into two games, effectively. The main game is a retelling of the Toy Story 3 movie – wherein you play as Buzz, Woody & Jessie as you take part in mostly standard platforming fair. At best, it feels like a Sly Cooper clone (complete with the precision jumping mechanics Sucker Punch is known for), but it's probably the worst part of the game – levels aren't interesting and it's over way too quickly. That, however, is where Toy Box mode comes in.

Toy Box mode takes place in the “Woody's Roundup” world present in the prologue of both the movie and the game – as you pick a deputy and set out around a surprisingly huge open world and set things right. Sure, you could go about doing missions for the towns people, customizing the crap out of the town...or you could just be a dick and throw things at people, throw people at people, or my favourite – drop kick people into a ravine. Never gets old. Also, this mode can be played in co-op – which just ratchets up the fun.

Don't let the kid friendly nature fool you – Toy Story 3 is a legitmately good game in a market known for producing utter crap. Once you've unlocked Toy Box mode, the game becomes much more fun, and it's astonishing that so much fun can be had in a mode which has nothing to do with the main story! Fun for young and old.
