EverQuest is turning 10. Man oh man that's a scary thought to think that a game I was playing back then is still going (maybe not strong but going all the same). EQ is a very important game in my book of gaming history. In fact I had a real hard time going back to console gaming after that. Having that level of social interaction in a game changed all the rules for me. Plus, it was fun. I lost a lot of weeks and months to it. Not years like some people who got addicted for years though. I could only play it in bursts of a month or two at a time, but those were pretty intense months.
I can still vividly remember my first day playing. I had got it the night my then girlfriend was throwing a party for her retarded goth friends so I wasn't able to play it, but that night I was up all night in my room researching the game.
So the next morning I kicked the last asshole out who had crashed at our place and booted up the PC. I picked an Elven Enchanter and got started. . . and quickly realized Enchanters sucked and moved on to another character. Human SK for those of you wondering.
It was great experience. That in-game world was like nothing I had seen. It was this big living breathing experience rich with activity and it's own history and lore. I loved it. Truth be told I was never even that good at the game due to my inability to stick with one character for more than a few weeks. But yeah I loved it. I really wish there was a game that could grab me like that again.
I honestly thought EQ was older than that.
And now it's 14.

With new missinos and quests to celebrate.
Hmmmm.... this also means I graduated college 14 years ago. EQ came out just before I graduated, and once I did the driving force to get a job was so I could afford a new PC to play this on. And for the record I had a job waiting for me before graduating. You see kids, back in the day jobs were easy to get.
