In lieu of the "what are you playing?" post, I thought I'd make a couple. I was at Freeplay Florida this weekend. It's a pinball, classic arcade, and console gaming festival. And though I ended up having major car problems while I was there, it was still a damn fine time, and I thought I'd show off some of the stuff I spent time with:
RE Shooter game. It was not good.
Pinbot and Bride of Pinbot. Two pinball legends.
WWF Superstars - the first great wrestling video game.

I have it on good authority from the Queen that this man saved every one of us.
Deathsmiles - some weird Japanese shooter
Super oversized Joust.
Raven - I've never seen this pinball game before. I feel vaguely uncomfortable looking at it.
Probably the best Popeye video game ever.
Theater of Magic - one of my personal favorites.
Oddly enough I found myself playing this Karate Champ cocktail table more than any other game. It made me feel like Fred Dukes.
I'm sorry. We're only allowed to say a game is good here if it's been made by Nintendo, therefore THIS is the best Popeye game ever:
Dude Karate Champ kicked ass. The twin stick controls were amazing for its time.
What about the best Poopeye game ever?
Yep. It was a very effective control scheme. Little surprised we didn't see more imitators.
I think I used to play that on the Atari. I maintain it takes second place behind the pinball machine. But if it ever makes its way to the Virtual Console...
That damn thing was ridiculous. It did a great job of replicating that feel of playing arcade games as a kid though. You were just tall enough to see over the console.
