I'm going to take a moment of your time and a little of your bandwidth and quickly mention a charity I'm working for. It's not really a charity though, it's more of a fundraiser I'm helping out with for a family member. We're trying to raise about $20K for a standing power wheelchair for a family member who has cerebal palsy and is a parapalegic due to it. I won't go into all the details, but her insurance won't pay for it, and so we've been trying to make it happen for her. We're just over 48 hours from the fundraiser's end date, so I figure I'd shake what few branches I haven't tried so far, and that's you guys!

Anyway it's a good cause, to a person who really needs the help, but just as importantly you could consider it your easy way to get Christmas gifts as donations for $10 or more all get things in return. We've got t-shirts for Cannibal the Music and Orgazmo that were donated by a guy who works with Trey Parker. There's a few horror movie t-shirts too if you're into that. Larger donations of $25 or so get you entered into a raffle for some really stellar stuff. For instance there's a table top Tesla coil! Show your friends how electricity works! There's a guy who offered a website and support for a year, and a DVD of the Night of the Living Dead 1990 remake that's been autographed by the whole cast. There's other stuff like a a custom made corset and some fairy stuff but I really can't see anyone here being interested.

The link with the details is here:  http://www.indiegogo.com/GoTeamRobin.  If you can't help out right now don't worry. It's completely understood. Rough time of year to be doing a fundraiser, we're well aware. But if you can I'd totally love you forever.

Nice thing you are doing here, saw some of your youtube videos. Sure I'll donate a bit. Glad to see you made so much already. Things like this is why the internet is so awesome.

Thanks dude. It's really amazing that we've made as much as we have so far. Even if we don't hit the new goal that we had to switch to mid-campaign, we've done something amazing.

Every time I hear "insurance won't cover [some health issue]" it's the worst combination of sadness and outrage.

I'd like to help out but I'm pretty much tapped out already and owe more money already.

Like I said, if you can't help it's totally cool. This is a really tough time of year for it no matter who you are. It was originally supposed to be finished last month, but the company they were originally working with to get the equipment stopping filling orders so an alternative company had to be found that's a little more expensive.

That being said if anyone does donate, message here if you could if you want a t-shirt or a raffle entry so I can make sure it's taken care of.

Wish you guys had a national health service. It doesn't make you a socialist.

I'm not sure socialized medicine would help in this case as this chair is considered life enhancing rather than a medical necessity. But in her case it means thw difference between living in a nursing home vs. an independent living facility.  Then again i'm not sure how that would work anyway. Very foreign concept still.

Some charities give grants for this sort of thing, have you checked it out? Might not pay for the full whack but it might help.

We've pretty much investigated everything at this point. There are charities that do that, but they have waiting lists, and there's always more obstacle out there. This whole thing has gone on for 4 months and was in the works for a while before that. You'd be amazed at how many rocks were flipped and leads were followed. We got a little help here and there from some great groups, but nothing that really was able to do much more than make a small dent.
