Over the past few days I've been playing the Namco Essentials collection on my PS3. It's a collection of their most notable arcade classics: Pac-Man, Dig-Dug, Xevious, and Galaga (along with 2 throwaways, Dragon Spirit and Xevious Resurrection). Anyway I got excited last night because after a couple months with this game I finally found out how to access the world wide ranking systems, and thought I'd get a good idea of where I rank. Jesus.... what a blow to the ego.
The Pac-Man scores are fucking unreal. There's a guy with a score of over a million points. That's insane. That's got to be one of those Pac-Man savants out there because that score is simply sick. But that score aside, the top players are all pretty damn high up there. I know my score on this was never outstanding (I was always better at Ms. Pac-Man and even won a handful of tournaments back in the day), but damn... I suck.
Oh well, if nothing else my Dig-Dug score is respectable. Still in the top 600. I guess that's not too bad.
No it's not, and I'm pretty proud of it. I learned a few tricks on the game by screwing around with it, while trying to win some trophies. I think I can outscore that too. But I still thought I'd be a little more impressive with Pac-Man. That was me being naive though. Even today it's still one of the most popular games of all time. Anytime you play it, you're playing in a real big pond.
Oddly enough most Namco collections don't have Ms. Pac-Man.
