First blog in a long time as I shunted all cartoon discussion into the forum.
Dead Space extraction, a 3rd person franchise in the vein of RE4 comes to Wii. And it's a lightgun shooter instead of the port, or ground up original game we were all expecting.
Then you have comments all over the place defending the decision with really silly arguments like:
"I'd rather have this than a dumbed down version of Dead Space, the Wii couldn't handle Dead Space. The Wii can't handle a 3rd person shooter."
I mean really, have these dudes never played RE4? Do they not realise that it was on Gamecube and PS2? Do they not feel the extreme deja vu, when Dead Space plays nearly exactly the same as RE4 only with more detailed visuals? Dead Space doesn't even feature next-gen staples like hundreds of on screen characters or even particularly large environments.
Are they not aware of the existance of RE4 Wii Edition or the positive critical reception to that games controls? Or the one and a half million sales?
Are they not aware that this bastion of Next-gen-ness that "couldn't be done on Wii" was in fact done for Xbox 1 three years ago?
Video here.
Dead Space could easily be done on Wii with graphics as good as, nay given Wii's twice as powerful as cube specs, better than RE4. There will be no dumbing down of anything else whatsoever. I'm really hacked off with this attitude from HD gamers that anything from the past is automatically shite, whether it be games or hardware, especially when you are playing some games which are the same design as last gen with more detailed visuals.
Don't feed the "this can't be done" and "dumbed down" camp please. Use those terms when actually appropiate and not just because they are easy slurs to throw around. Because it's exactly this kind of attitude that lumps wii with spin offs.
If want to look at the truth of why this game is a lightgun shooter it's simple: it's easier and cheaper and faster to do, hence why it's announced now and out at the end of this year.
HD gamers do stink, literally. They stink because all they do all day is sit around in front of their HDTV's playing with their joysticks and sweating and farting. Seriously! It's true. They no longer have any desire to go outside anymore because the graphics on their 1080p HDTV's looks better to them than real life. It's all very sad, but also very true. I've seen it happen to too many gamers already this gen. For this reason, I will not buy an HDTV--ever! SD, FTW!
SD Looks like crap on and HDTV.
LOL Raven.
Stereotypes of all kinds suck. The PS3 and Wii stereotypes are the ones that annoy me the most. For Chissakes people, just buy the consoles, there are great games on all of them and it's worth the dough.
Graphics whores need not apply, I'm sick of it. Dead Space (from what I have seen) would have been as good a game in the 6th generation as it was in the 7th.
HD gamers? Do they exist or is that just another poor categorization? It;s just a name applied to 360 or PS3 owners who can't man up and buy a Wii.
I just don't agree with this bland baseless attitude. I've seen on various comments sections to Dead Space stories that Wii supposedly can't handle 3rd person shooters? I mean come on! That's just a joke. And when you do have a design that has no benefits other than graphics for a game, something like the Darkness which could well be a PS2 game, the acusation that it would be "dumbed down" is just saying that the graphics, would OBVIOUSLY be worse.
But how is that dumbed down? It's lesser graphics, but some guys act like the PS2 generation is a commodore 64.
Couldn't agree more.
