I don't see why somebody needs to have played a FULL GAME to be able to know whether its quality or not. By that notion, Dvader shouldn't even be commenting on RE6 as he is yet to play the FULL GAME himself. Its ridiculous.

Settings and story progress, but gameplay-wise, what you see in a demo or by watching a video is for the most part what you get. You basically KNOW what the game is like, especially if you're a seasoned gamer.

Well Vader's commenting on the game as he plays so that's different. I'm fine with people having opinions without playing the game or saying they may agree with a review it's when they start claiming that one is the "true" review that I find to be silly.

WOW! Chris' last two chapters are incredible!  It has moments where its like RE4 in execution and locations. It has moments where its like Uncharted. I flew a jet! (BUT for some crazy reason the jet flight controls are not inverted, I have everything set to inverted but this wont let you change it, its a plane its supposed to be inverted.) The story is actually one of the most shocking and emotional moments in RE history. Brilliant stuff here.

Someone at Biohaze made a topic asking why did this game get the scores it did. And I responded with this, I thought it was interesting enough to post it here. Again this is MY theory, I have no clue if I am right or wrong but it is what I feel is happening:

Its pretty stunning to say the least, especially now that I have played it. I have been gaming for most of my life and i have played a huge range of games from masterpieces to games I would consider utter trash. What shocks me is not that people dislike RE6, I can see issues come up, it is that these people would score it to a point that would suggest they believe RE6 is on the level with some of those utter crap games. I see almost nothing to even remotely suggest RE6 is a horrible disaster of a game, in fact its mostly the opposite. It is a very well made game, with loads of ups and downs, yes it tries to much but damn does it TRY. Production values through the roof, replay value that few games dream of. Whether its fun or not is up to the player but in terms of overall package there is a lot to like about RE6.

Now why did this happen, I don't know, I wish I could ask them but the ones that gave it a low scores seem to be unreasonable (just read the destructoid review to know what I mean). My theory is that gamers are getting more and more conditioned to a certain kind of game. This gen has been all about the big AAA title and if you sit back and look at them they all have similarities. They are all very user friendly, there is almost a universal control scheme being used for certain genres. The games are structured in a way to make sure the player never gets frustrated even at the expense of interesting gameplay.

So when a game comes along that does not fit into those categories, gamers that have become accustomed to playing a certain kind of game sort of freak out. All of a sudden the controls aren't the same as others, they have difficulty playing it. Things aren't neatly laid out. Now yes it is Capcom's fault for not doing so, which is why they have every right to dislike the game like anyone else but I get disappointing when I see a game break out of this generic shell get treated like this.

RE6 is the most surprising, wild game I have played in a long time. I honestly have no freaking clue what is going to happen next in an age where I can predict what is going to happen in almost all games now.

Saw this on gaf:

Well, on IGN Italy we had an hard time with the comments to our review due to people (who did NOT play the game) non "accepting" (????) the high score and citing low-scores of other magazine as a proof of the bad quality of the game (ignoring, actually, the good ratings the game was awarded somewhere else...).

This, after the reviewer spent 4 pages and a video explaining WHY the game deserved an high score according to him, why he genuinely liked it (because he did).

For what I've seen, most people simply could not accept the simple fact that Resident Evil 6 may appeal to someone. It seems that it is not just the quality of the game which has to be "punished". It is the fact that the game "changed". Resident Evil 6 is seen as the very definitive betrayal by Capcom against hordes of fans which can't accept the game is now an action game (even though it has became an action game since Resident Evil 4...).

I can't even imagine what will happen when DMC will hit the stores, next year. It will be very interesing. Sad, yet very interesting.

Wow.

Finished the first two chapters of Jake and yeah its uneven but I love all the switches in gameplay.

The biggest issues are the vehicle segments which feel a but messy due to having some cheap deaths. I do appreciate the effort to have them, I did like the jet in Chris', awesome stuff. But everything else I enjoyed like the large map with the snow, yeah it was a bit hard to see the enemies but that is the point you are in a snow storm. The stealth moments where well done, sweet change of pace. Really the only really bad part was the start where you are being hit by random fire from a helicopter.

Jake chapter 3!!! This maybe my favorite chapter of the whole game, well that and the first part of chapter 4 which ties in together. Complete utter action insanity, LOVE IT. This area basically allows you to make the best use of Jake's moves, it looked like I was in a kung fu movie.

That whole chinese mansion was such a fantasticly designed area. Then came the fucking tank out of nowhere! The bike chase was very well done. It handled very responsively and while there is instant deaths if you play it smart, using brakes you can get through it no problem. Reminds me of something out of MGS. But of course that is followed by a crap section where a helicopter is shooting at me for like  a minute straight, so annoying.

So GME you really believe the most logical explaination as to why review scores are the way they are is because there are a bunch of people who lie to themselevs, who are playing a game and for whatever insane reason decide "wow this game isnt that good but damn I better give it a good review." Or I guess you can claim the there is a grand conspiracy and sites are getting paid for reviews, which there is evidence of so maybe.

But I dont buy that garbage, I think it is simply people having different opinions, simple as that. Are some reviews of higher quality than others, of course. Are there cases of reviewers clearly being incompetent, getting facts wrong, yes. Usually those are clear cut and easy to point out. For the most part it is people sharing their opinions.

Let me point this out:

"kudos to site x for giving game y the score it deserves" is someone who is fucking thankfull they are getting something truly honest, in a mostly seedy field.

Do you not see the complete insanity in someone being thankfful that they are getting something "honest" when they have NOT PLAYED THE GAME. They have no clue whether or not the game site is being honest, so explain to me why they are saying that if not because they came in with a pre determined opinion on the game.

==================================================================================================================================================

There is no insanity to it all. In fact it's far more sane than all this "you have to buy the gameand fully complete it to have an opinion" bullshit. That's why we read reviews, because those people have finished the game, so we can bank on their opinions without having to invest the money. If I watch the video reviews and try the demo then i'm pretty informed about the game. To say that my opnion dosen't matter is whats insane.

So blah to that.

Regardless though the gamespot score is too low.

And Archangel is you honestly think that there are no hidden agendas or payouts behind a lot of gaming journalism than you have your head up in the clouds man. They barely even try to hide it anymore.

You can decide to not buy the game based on reviews. You can have an opinion on what you have read and seen on the game. You can have an opinion on the demo. You cannot have an opinion of the entire game if you have not played it. Want me to prove it, tell me GME what did you think of Chris chapter 3? Oh wait you HAVE NOT PLAYED IT.

Sorry GME if there is an actual discussion going on between people who have played RE6 and you run in and say "this game is shit" without playing it, who is the foolish one? You can't have a meaningful opinion on the game without playing it. Again I totally agree you have more than enough info to determine if you want to play it or not and if it LOOKS crappy to you fine, but thats as far as you can go with that.

You said this

That's why we read reviews, because those people have finished the game, so we can bank on their opinions without having to invest the money.

And then you say this

And Archangel is you honestly think that there are no hidden agendas or payouts behind a lot of gaming journalism than you have your head up in the clouds man.

So you trust the reviews of people you believe do have hidden agendas and payoffs. Huh?

RE6 is going to end up being remembered as a game that wasn't as bad as many said it was...but yet wasn't that good either. It just boils down to it not being of a high enough quality for a RESIDENT EVIL title. And also a bit too un Resident Evil for an RE title.

This is why I typically like the Metacritic and Gamerankings averages...because IMO you usually get a solid number on how a game REALLY is by tallying them all up together. It cancels out all the crazy highs and lows.

Again GME I never said someone can't have an opinion on a game without playing the game. There's a difference between saying that you don't think a game looks to be good or good for you to saying one review is the "true" review. That's saying that all others are "false" and to me that's just plain silly. While there have been attempts to coerce more favourable reviews I don't buy into this idea that gaming journalism is by and large "bought and paid for" as some people might suggest.

We learned in maths that the most commonly occuring result is the most reliable - the mode.

In this case it would be about 6/10. Averages can be skewed by one of two results on the far edges of either spectrum. Obviously how you value the game will depend on each persons individual experience.

Sarcasm, GG? LOL I wasn't planning to rent it, but it was just there at Redbox, so I had to try it. It sure is an ugly game by today's standards, and there's a lot of QTEs. Surprisingly fun, though.

I'm glad I don't go to GAF....I tried to set up an account there one time, can't remember why I didn't.

Well, we are a small community, it's hard to find 30 other people playing the same game at the same time, so going to GAF serves a purpose when it's quiet here. You got to roll with the good and bad there though and try and minimise your posting.

I'm glad we sorted all that out. That was the one thing I objected to from forum posts across the intenet, mainly.

Famitsu reviews are bought. I read an article on it, they review on a funny basis on ad revenue and supporting retail and all that. Funny and strange.

This is a overeaction. People comment on reviews for new games all the time. Just because this game is getting critically raped, people are acting differently about it, going overboard. It's common internet practice to comment on bad reviews for popular games. I really don't think that godmode has to play Chris chapter 3 to comment on the game. I don't think he tried to comment on it either.

As Gman was saying we live in an age where we have all the info in the world, long videos, 50 reviews at the click of a button. This whole pretending we can't get a general vibe for a games quality until we've bought, paid and played it to death is rather absurd and selective. It's only happening because Resident Evil is such a revered franchise with a large fanbase.

We could use that thinking about any game. Did you play Army Men Sarge's Revenge? Well then you can't say it's bad till you buy and play it. Did you play chapter 3 where Sarge stormed the toy factory? Oh wait you HAVE NOT PLAYED IT.

All I'm saying is that, instead of peeps across the net saying you have to play it or you can't comment, it would be better if they actually explained why it's good and why some reviews are wrong etc. Or why an opinion isn't necessarily correct. So far I've heard a few things across the net that come across as condescending and no one likes that. Like Edgecrusher said, we all have ample gaming experience, we all know what we like and we can all read.

I think we can all agree that we are all Resident Evil fans here and we all want the series to be as good as it can be. I hope we don't start falling out over something that we all love and will probably all play eventually anyway.

Champaign, Illinois

Champaign (English /ˌʃæmˈpeɪn/) is a city in Champaign County, Illinois, in the United States. The city is located 135 miles (217 km) south of Chicago, 124 miles (200 km) west of Indianapolis, Indiana, and 178 miles (286 km) northeast of St. Louis, Missouri. Though surrounded by farm communities, Champaign is notable for sharing the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with its sister city of Urbana. Thanks to the university and a number of well known technology startup companies, it is often referred to as the hub, or at least a significant landmark, of the Silicon Prairie. Champaign is also the home of Parkland College. Champaign houses offices for seven Fortune 500 companies, and two more are planned to arrive soon.[citation needed]

As reported in the 2010 U.S. Census, the city was home to 81,055 people. Champaign is the 11th-most populous city in Illinois, and the fourth-most populous city in the state outside of the Chicago Metropolitan Area.
