Does no one else spend a lot of time on the toilet?
Does no one else like to play games lying in bed?
Am I the only one surrounded by family most of the time?

From the videos I've seen of games running on like an rtx 3050, the games don't really look much better on other consoles. You're splitting hairs looking at them, hunting for imperfections.
Most of the big games tested, they even have ps4 versions or even originated on ps4.

Sometimes I’ll play games and watch tv at the same time but it’s pretty rare as most of the time I’d rather just focus on the one thing. That’s the only time I’ve ever played my Switch in portable mode.
I’m usually only in the toilet for 5 minutes at the most. Just do my thing and get out. Not even enough time to flip through a flyer of ads.
I find trying to game in bed uncomfortable. I go to bed when I’m tired so would rather go to sleep.
I live on my own so don’t have to share tv time with others. When I do have someone over it’s for visiting so will do things like watching tv or whatever together.
Sure the differences may not be really big in some games and I’m not going to focus on them while actually playing the game but if I have a more powerful and capable system I may as well get the game for that system.

When I play a game, that's all I focus on, so no.
I only spend couple minutes on the toilet, so no need for reading material or gaming.
I never play games in bed. I have a comfy recliner sitting in front of a big TV.
I only share my TV with my dog. Thankfully, she doesn't know how to use the remote.

Yeah, I'm more likely to buy a game for whatever platform I own that's the most powerful. Not only for graphics but for improved performance too.

DLSS gives you that performance. The videos I've seen on a cheap laptop are as high as over 170 fps. We're not talking 30fps for most games.
Some games are way over 170.
I'd prefer to buy a game on Switch, but mainly because I've grown to appreciate the intimacy of gaming on a handheld. Games just seem more magical when I hold them in my palm, just like how the 3DS made games more enjoyable because of the stereoscopic 3D.
I sometimes, though rarely, play a game in bed. Never on the toilet, I find that unhygenic. I did occasionally play Ds or 3Ds games in bath, as I do enjoy taking a long bath now and then. With the actively cooled Switch, I never did though as I fear for corrosion of the copper cooler.

Don't know how you guys get the hours in playing some of these big time sink games? I wouldn't have time to sink hundreds of hours into Animal Crossing, Asphalt 9, Xenoblade or Snowrunner if I wasn't second screening.
I also have a big tv and recliner, but lying in bed is way nicer at night.
This is cool, someone showing how DLSS 4 can be used to upscale from super low resolutions to achieve higher framerates on lower powered hardware. It can go as high as 90 fps.
Watch and wait to see when he/she changes the settings.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Running at 360p Upscaled to 1080p ... - Wccftech DLSS4 to Switch 2?
https://wccftech.com/marvels-spider-man-2-360p-nvidia-dlss-4-nintendo-switch-2/
With DLSS, if a game is running at like 14 fps, once you turn on DLSS it goes over 30 fps and becomes baseline playable. Since Switch 2 seems to have a 60hz screen I think most games won't bother pushing framerates past that. But played when docked I think you will see some 4k 30fps versions of older games. And a lot of games at 1080p and 1440p at way over 60fps.
Have you guys seen any videos, done any research into any of this? I was suprised seeing the new Forzas running at like 174 fps on a rtx 2050 gpu.
Games aren't going to be miracle ports anymore (aka blurry, crappy textures etc) they will look the same as other versions.
The only way I can see publishers cutting costs is having lower file sizes to save money on carts I guess. That could lead to lower textures but the RAM amount and bandwidth seem fine.
I even saw Black Myth Wukong running and looking great on an rtx 2050, and the devs are finding it hard to run on a series S.
Switch 2 while having less rasterisation in tflops, is still more modern in some ways to the Ps5 and XB series.
I think this is the first time since the GC where there are no negative stories floating about from developers.
It's the first console to have DLSS built in so all games will have it factored in when building their games from day 1.
There's a rumor that MGS Delta eater has been held back to be a Switch 2 launch window game.

I hate laying down unless I'm asleep. I also try to avoid large games since I will never finish them.
I'd curb your enthousiasm a bit in regards to the capabilities of DLSS GG. It's not a free lunch, even if it's a pretty cheap one. It adds some latency and DLSS has issues with certain types of materials and rendering techniques so while it might work well in one game, it might not work for every title. I've seen people state how they prefer to turn it off, but if Switch2 relies on it to get games to work, that might not be an option. The lower the base resolution, the more artefacts will be introduced.
Also, by the time the Switch2 releases, Xbox series and PS5 will have been on the market for 5 years. Switch2 might be able to keep up with those, but it'll only be a year or 2, 3 max before the next gen releases, possibly leaving the Switch2 behind again. That won't matter for Nintendo's own games, but could have a big impact on 3rd party support.
Given how long Switch has lasted I don't see a problem for long term support. It's not just about the latest games, there's tons of games they could port over from the ps4 and Xb1 and the billion new indie games that are still coming out.
I hear DLSS has to supported on a per game basis though I hear there is a way to "force" it.
I've seen enough videos that show how it works in the real world with real games including Cyberpunk, Red Dead Redemption 2, Black Myth Wukong, Forza and more.
It works and works well, it increases performance and it will be an important tool when making switch 2 games. Even DF had Death Stranding on a "bandwidth starved, super low spec laptop" at 4k at 26 to 31 fps with 4gb RAM, using DLSS. They also used hardware raytracing in Control and it worked well.
Most of the DLSS workload goes on the tensor cores, it's the frametime cost that is the problem, but that's usually measured in milliseconds. And you can do things to reduce that frame time cost, like rendering at a higher resolution to reduce it.
DLSS 4 is much improved so you won't see as many artefacts or ghosting and people have already tested it on 2050 level gpus, which is the lowest baseline expectation hardware. And Switch 2 may be more in line with 30 series cards.
You can watch the Spiderman 2 video I linked, at 360p using DLSS 4 to have it at 1080p, it's a very clean image and runs well. Switch could even use 540p and upscale to 1080p.
PC users are rendering at 720p and using DLSS for 4k output. I dislike using the word upscale when talking about DLSS as its so much more and best in class.
Developers are saying Switch 2 is very capable, journalists are saying big publishers are considering it for their "most ambitious AAA projects"
When you hear Starfield, Indiana Jones and the New Fable might be coming, it really doesn't leave any doubt, that it's not a switch 1 hobo port situation.
This is part of the reason I find it weird when people are cold on playing on a hybrid version. Take your favourite game, make it playable on your portable so you can boot it up in seconds, play it anywhere (plane, train, relatives house, office toilet) then you can put it in the dock and continue playing on the tv in your preferred way?
I played Halo 1, 2, 3, 4 and reach on a home console. It will blow my mind to own and have those 5 games and ODST in one collection playable on a handheld with instant loading and gyro controls. And still be able to flip to tv in a second too.
DF are very pro-DLSS, they'll hype it no matter what. The spiderman video you linked is using the new DLSS4 transformer model, not sure if Nintendo could still incorporate this in Switch2. Or if they'd care enough to put in the work.
Reports state that Switch2 is equivalent to Series S, but that will be with the use of Nvidea's wizardry, and Series S is the weakest current gen console by far.
I'm not saying the Switch2 won't benefit from having access to Nvidea's machine learning algorithms, just that it'd be wise to keep expectations in check. You seem to be adding up every single positive morsel of news and setting yourself up for disappointment.
And of course publishers are considering to bring as much games to it. Switch sold 150 million units. Publishers will be expecting Switch2 to do the same. Then they'll be disappointed that sales targets weren't met. It's the way of the publisher.
As for Indiana Jones, this is what DF had to say about it:
Xbox Series S is even more of a challenging platform, and one where we've seen RT features dropped on many releases. Here though, RTGI is a requirement, so Machine Games needed to take a different approach to ensure a good visual outcome. Internal resolutions are still relatively high, at around 1080p, but the game relies on variable rate shading (VRS), like Doom Eternal did on Xbox. This technique attempts to reduce quality in areas not of visual interest, which drives up performance but can sometimes manifest like video encoding artefacts. The issue isn't serious on Series X, but on Series S the combination with the lower resolution and TAA can produe a smeary mess that doesn't hold up well on a large display - though probably would be fine enough on a smaller handheld screen.
Quite the coincidence they'd say such a thing, no?
Ravenprose said:I'm still skeptical of PSSR, FSR and DLSS tech, especially when it comes to possible input lag.
All those technologies are machine learning versions of anti-aliasing and upscaling. Most games have been using AA or some form of upscaling. They don't have a huge impact on input lag.
DF reported that even using 3x frame gen on the new 5000 series cards, it only added about 6 or 7 milliseconds of lag. You get much more frames, for a light penalty in responsiveness. On the other hand, I've never understood the fixation with extremely high framerates. I'd be just as happy gaming at 30fps with accompanying input lag.
DF are pro-motion blur and pro-AA too, which sucks, IMO. I turn off motion blur and AA in my games whenever I can. I'd rather have jaggies than blury visuals. N64 scarred me for like on AA, lol.
