You are correct. Bowie, nine inch nails, Marilyn manson, and Smashing pumpkins are all featured prominently alongside Brazilian jazz legend Antônio Carlos Jobim.
Easily one of my favorite movie soundtracks of all time.
We went to see 2 movies with the kids over the holiday. We saw the new Minions movie in early july and Buzz Lightyear last weekend.
The minions movie has a high CPS (chuckle per minute), but it really is not a good movie. I was surprised at how good Buzz Lightyear was though. Besides being 'the next Pixar movie', it holds up pretty good as a scifi film as well.
The presentation was something else entirely. All this footage interspersed with clips from movies like metropolis and Nosferatu. The whole thing was really something special. Definitely something to see if you're a fan or even just a fan of how the mind of an artist works.
I can't find a screening of that movie anywhere nearby.
We watched Avatar2 in cinema yesterday. My wife really wanted to see it as she liked the original a lot. My son was going to see it with my father. We had planned to go see it next weekend, but by chance I overheard someone talking about how last weekend was the last weekend it was being played in theatres, and we managed to squeeze a near 4 hour long film in our already busy Sunday schedual. 
Anyhow, I didn't care much for the movie. Sure, it looks very nice, but so do videogames these days, and the moment you realize it's all just CGI the vista's just couldn't wow me anymore. It's suposedly some big thing because it was mocapped under water, but really, wouldn't it have been easier to just animate the whole thing? There are parts in there that definitely are animated instead of mocapped, I can't help but wonder if it wouldn't have been more cost effective (not to mention easier for the actors) to just NOT film the thing under water.
As for the story... Meh. The first one was basically space pocahontas with feisty blue aliens. And this one doesn't fare any better. The Sully family is being hunted by machiavellistic special forces. So they decide to flee far away to keep their tribe safe. Like those military types didn't napalm their whole tribe after they left anyway, just for lulz. There are bits about swimming, about kids growing up,... It's like they tried to cram 3 different movies into one, and judging by the length, they probably did.
Yeah, the first Avatar film is all I ever cared to see.

As is par for the course for all Illumination movies. A non stop crossfire of gags and laughs wrapped around a very middling movie.
We watched the Mario Movie with our kids and our best friends yesterday. Our youngest, aged 6, was the perfect age for this. He was brimming from start to finish. My wife, having been well educated in the ways of Mario over the last 2 decades laughed out loud a couple of times and I enjoyed the more subtle easter eggs.
Like I said in the post above, it's not a good movie by any meassure, but it's an entertaining one. I find that a lot of its value is derived from the fact that we've never experienced the Mario universe in this way. I hope they don't start churning these out on a regular basis though, I don't know if nods and winks to obscure Nintendo history will be able to carry me through a second movie.
I loved the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I'll say that if you are a fan of the first two then you will enjoy this one as well. I actually think it may be my favorite of the series. The ending was just perfect and I've grown to really love these characters.

Nice. I loved the previous two movies so very much looking forward to seeing the new one. May see it at the theatre but will be picking it up on blu-ray regardless.
GotG3 got off to a darker start then I would have liked. It certainly made sense in contacts of their story, but my favorite thing about the series thus far is how it never felt the need to dip its toe into that water. Most of that gets resolved by the second half of the movie, and from there it's everything you'd want and love in a guardians movie.
Dungeons & Dragons was almost a great movie. It was good, but really would have benefited from a better writer, or at least one that wasn't treating the audience like they had a fifth grade education. There was just no subtlety in anything, and every plot point was spelled out so no one could miss anything so long as they were in the room.
Kind of ironic really. By and large I think Dungeons & Dragons as always attracted a very intelligent and educated group of followers. And now they make a movie for it where they try to dumb it down for the lowest common denominator.
Spider-Man across the spider verse is one of the finest super hero moves ever made. I liked the first but wasn't in love with it but this one, man it just raises all the stakes. Incredible animation, acting, the story is gripping on every level. It's a deep family drama, a coming of age story, a wild multiverse story, it's everything. It's so damn good.
