Running and shooting is hardly aiming. You can run and shoot in all directions (well, at least eight) in Other M. Is that less directions than left, right, up, down, and diagonals? Nope. And you do it far more instantly than crouching and being immobile or toggling diagonal switches, you just press a direction and shoot. The FPV is for different situations than crouching, I merely said you're immobile in both situations. And it doesn't exactly take long to switch either as seen in the videos. Don't see the problem or what's so unmetroid like.

But you're not aiming right? It's got an auto aim so the game does most of it for you whilst you're moving from left to right?
Because it uses some form of auto aim right?
I don't have a huge problem with it, I'm just wary about it. I think when the reviews come in, we'll here more about how it works. I have a feeling that if some reviews don't like it then mark it down for that reason. Well I think people wont be happy.
Mario Rocks
I never thought I'd say this, but it's obvious that Nintendo has run out of ideas. They are clearly ripping off Rare's Kameo with that powerup!
Then I saw the labyrinth zone level and it was better. The level design looked pretty good, the momentum stuff wasnt much an issue cause there was actual platforming going on. I think this game will have some great later levels.
So yeah seems ok.
Pre-ordered the PS2 version.
But as for the Skies / Valkyria connection? So many folks take credit for having worked on Skies and Halo it is no longer credible unless they give us names and positions.
I had the Spider-Ham comic that defended video games against a Mothers group. Wish I still had it.
Cool. I would not have even tried to get them to fix it. I should have sent inmy broken-hinged one and my bad bottom screened one when I lived in the states.
i'm starting to fear that the PS2 version isn't being released in Europe, haven't been able to find it listed on any retailer websites. Or maybe websites just don't even bother updating PS2 games nowadays. May have to grudgingly settle for the wii version which only has the english dub
Leo are the voices very cringe-worthy or at least passable?

I'll let you know as soon as I can; no where even close to home yet!
My first instinct was to just toss it aside forever, but after a few days of thinking about it I realized that I'd only had it for 8 or 9 months and it might still be under warranty. Nintendo was awesome about it. They paid to have it shipped to them, charged me nothing for the repairs, and are sending it back. I thought it was a little strange that when the kid broke my Wii a few years back they charged me $60 to repair it, but I'm not complaining.
thank you bro. i'm very much looking forward to your first impressions of the game. and also towards further impressions of fragile

You have to be roughly facing an enemy from what they said. So just like you'd press "up" in 2D Metroid, you'll press "up" in 3D metroid to shoot at an enemy coming not from above, but from "further in" the screen and "Down" to hit an enemy coming not from below, but from "out" of the screen. And anyway enemy patterns and challenge will be built around the autoaim
you couldn't auto aim in 2D zelda either but you got the lock on in Ocarina, Metroid Other M doesn't quite go that far, even though Metroid Prime actually did and people love it

The voices are totally cringe-worthy, but you know what? They fit the game perfectly.
That is not a bad thing in the least though!
I have no way to describe this game and do it justice. There's simply NOTHING else I have played to compare it to!
I haven't even come close to fighting a battle yet. At this point I don't even know how important the battles are going to be to the game!
This game is an indescribable sum of many seemingly un-relate-able parts that all seem to work when put together.
The voices are pretty terrible, but they remind me of an Anime brought over to America: cheesy as all hell, but you are so glad to be able to even just watch the anime itself, you don't care!
The cut scenes are done in HUGE, BOLD, in-your-face Anime style. Colorful, over exaggerated expressions on the characters faces, music that screams "ELEVATOR" at one minute, 1920's New York in another...
Speaking of which, I love the idea the game takes place in New York City. You are part of a battle unit whose HQs is located beneath the "Little Lips Theater..." Ummm... Wha...? Don't question! Somehow it just works! Mechanized Warrior Battalion under a Theater on Broadway? Yup! Love it!
Playing the game so far is like reading a digital comic, but you HAVE TO pay attention! There will be times you are asked to answer a question, and you are either timed --OR-- you have to measure out your level of excitement in answering the question itself. These are almost like conversational tree, quick-time-events. If I understand correctly, your interactions with other characters in this way is what Levels them up!
I made it to the first Save Point and stopped cause I know as I play more I am going to be overwhelmed with alllllll the unique aspects of the game to the point where I won't be able to describe ANY of it!
It's over-the-top, It's quirky, It's unlike anything else I have ever played. I LOVE IT!
*Don't ask me why, but the digital comic aspect of it reminds me somehow of Snatcher for the Sega CD, which, in itself, was a gaming enigma... Maybe it's the fact that they are both games that you would never expect to see outside of Japan. Maybe there's something to the graphical environments and presentation of the game? I dunno yet what it is exactly, but that is very good company to share a spotlight with!*
...I guess they HAD to do it due to the multiple answer options, but I thought the sound had dropped out and there was something wrong with the game at first!
Exactly, I totally agree with you. But I do think there is enough new with this Metroid game for the auto aiming to work.
