Nintendo 3DS: IGN Editors Chime In
Levi Buchanan: I really could not wait to try out the Nintendo 3DS at E3. After spending my allotted 20 minutes with the handheld, I cannot deny the impressiveness of Nintendo's 3DS technology. This really could be a revolutionary machine. The first game preview I saw was Animal Crossing. Watching the world roll at me with real spatial differences between the characters, trees, and ground made me break out in a monster grin.
Iggly! You should have left the story black.
Daemon Hatfield: I was very excited to check out the 3DS, so imagine my disappointment when I found a blurry mess that hurt my eyes. Now, I have a bad astigmatism in my left eye and wear very strong prescription contact lenses. I can only assume my poor eyesight is keeping me from appreciating the 3DS' visuals, because most everyone else had a positive experience with it. But when I look at the 3D screen I see double. If I concentrated really hard I could bring the images together, but I couldn't keep them that way for long. So it looks like the 3DS may not work for everyone.
Why is Hatefiled such a buzz kill?
Michael Pereira: The 3DS is an impressive piece of hardware: something that makes 3D glasses seem like an archaic piece of technology. The real genius of the system is the 3D slider. Your first instinct is to turn the 3D effect all the way up, but I found that it would strain my eyes after awhile. Putting the slider somewhere in the middle fixed this problem immediately. I still had the "gee-whiz" factor without the eyestrain – this is something I wish 3D movies could do. Furthermore the image is crisp without the somewhat dull, muted, and fuzzy picture that even the most high tech 3D movie produces. I am very eager to see where the system goes from here.
All signs point to 3DS doing 3D better than 3DTVs and movies. Yesterday Digital Foundry said the effect was better than a PS3 and a 3DTV.

Kensuke Tanabe & the Metroid Palm Tree
How can you post an update about a palm tree without making a terrible face palm joke?!
IGN: OK. Let's start with the fact that this is Donkey Kong, versus Metroid Prime. That's a big step, I think. What started that?
Retro: We've been working on this project since April 2008. Prior to that, we were working on experiments for our next project. And as I'm sure you're aware, we had some staff leave, which made us question whether or not the projects we were working on -- these experiments -- were in our best interest at the time. So Mr. Tanabe and Mr. Miyamoto were discussing Donkey Kong Country, and asking "is there a developer around that can do it justice?" And we had just had this issue with the shift in personnel and we were open, so they approached us and asked us if we'd be interested. We couldn't say yes fast enough. That's kind of how it fell into our laps. Actually, it was "Fate" which was the code word for this game since then.
Ugh, those 3 dudes leaving wrecked everything.
Retro: Each level in DKCR contains about three times the detail of an average Metroid Prime 3 room, as far as the texture count and poly count. That has required us to really ramp up our technology to support that. We're playing on the same platform, but with three times the content in any given level.
Wow.
Retro making an RPG?
Retro: I think that we're getting that question a lot. And, really, a good developer makes a fun game. To lock any developer into a genre is, I don't know . . . our goal is to make fun Nintendo games. Very high quality. And whether it's a first-person shooter or an RPG, we welcome any of those challenges. So I get a kick out of reading all these posts that say, "Oh, it's gotta be this FPS DKC." It makes me laugh -- because they've really pigeon-holed Retro as making exclusively FPS-style games. Right?
Interesting.
My Wii is dusty too but that's because I don't dust. I gets played quite often but the dust still comes. Need to speak to the wife about that and make her earn her keep.
Isn't it 800x something, with half for each eye? Well, I guess that makes the game area rendered 400x still.
The optimist proclaims we live in the best of all possible worlds
while the pessimist fears this is true.

Doing some updating.
You know what makes games better? Booze. And apparently some guy who runs a winery feels the same and has created 8-Bit Vinters.
"My wine is for anyone who spent time trying to save a princess or fit odd shaped blocks together. We may have never met, but we have more in common than we ever knew. So blow out that old Contra cartridge, give the NES a good dust off, and pour yourself a glass."
I'm not sure I buy it myself, but I got to give the guy credit. He has two passions and combined them. Good for him.
Sony is “pleased” that Nintendo is releasing 3DS
Of course they are. Now they know what to do with the PSP2. It has nothing to do with increasing the awareness of 3-D.
I wanted to see COD black ops wii version. Every year it's the same thing, they show off the HD version and pretend the wii version doesn't exist.
Would it kill them to give a hands on or some screens and video?
It's growing on me.
What the hell?

Crysis 2
Epic Mickey
Gears of War 3

Kirby's Epic Yarn
Killzone 3

El Shaddai Ascension of the Metatron
In that order?
That was the order they listed them in, but they didn't necessarily say they were ranking them in order. For the most part I'd agree with those picks, with the exception of Marvel vs. Capcom III. I still say that art style fails for that game. All the Marvel characters look ridiculous.
