There was a huge earthquake in the pacific coast here in Mexico. 7.8 Richter and holy shit I even felt it here.
Damn, glad you are safe.
Capcom is on crack. I dont think any Capcom game has ever sold 10 million units, maybe SF2.
Not yet
I thought they were going to say RE6 could sell 10 mil when I read this.....then I look up at the story and it says Dragon's Dogma.
They are lit.
I do hope the game is good though.
Fuck...no Tsunami?
Happy B day!
IMO when you have people that are supposed to be professionals on any given form of entertainment, and you have huge disparities in their opinions as to what is good or not good..something is wrong. No matter what you prefer for yourself, if something is high quality, it should be recognized as such by all these professionals, or vice versa. I can totally understand something giving a game a 8.5 and another person giving it a 7.0. But when you see one dude giving a game a 9 and saying its incredible, then another dude giving it a 4 and saying its a piece of shit....that's a bit too far fetched for me to take seriously.
Happy Day Vader ! Sorry about the Quake Steelio, glad you and your family are all ok.
Should be, but this is rarely how it works out in reality. Technique is only one aspect contained in reviews, and is often evaluated in a very narrow fashion, and always done only in the context of what is accepted at the time. This is one of the factors that means you get quite a few things hated at the time, then later revered (and crap that was loved at the time just because it appeared to do the right things, but will be hated eventually). Obviously there's a million other elements to the context of a review; and they all degrade it's objective quality.
As for the matter of disparity... There is no single prevailing philosophy on technique in any form of entertainment, and very few critics are going to have a proper grasp on more than a few, let alone the majority of them. This makes such an approach to reviewing effectively useless without specialisation and in the case of gaming there is very little review specialisation, if any at all. Even with specialisation if one is influenced by technique from another philosophy and implements it well then the specialised reviewer still won't be in a position to review it.
In other words you're halfway there. You don't take them seriously when there's disparity. Now you just need to take the next step and never take them seriously.
The erotic fanart I had to endure to get those, Vader.
Happy Birthday!
Thanks foolz, those are awesome!
I'm 37 hours into Mass Effect 3 so far, and loving the game. I can't say its better than ME2 was; it does some things better and some things worse. But its right up there. Some absolutely awesome moments in the game. I am finding all these stories about people complaining about the game totally hilarious. Is that really all they are upset about is the ending? Does the end really ruin the other 99% of the game? If that's the case they should have rioted over most of the games in the Halo series too.
IMO Mass Effect has done for this generation of consoles what Final Fantasy did in the PS1 days. Just delivered great epic adventures grand in scope with some awesome characters you really care about. Hats off to Bioware...now let's see if they milk the franchise to death.
Yeah, well said. Though here is a wrinkle: are game reviews supposed to be like a car review or a music "album" review? If it is supposed to be a consumer review, like that of a car, then yeah, there should be a consistent way to measure the quality of a game.
But then, games aren't just consumer products that have measurable parts, there are also subjective components.
Look at Journey for example (the new art game on PSN). It probably has all the technical measurables at a high level due to the budget and time put into it. But I can garantee the level of enjoyment for that game is going to vary greatly based on expectations going in as to what a "game" is.
But on the whole I agree with you, a disparate score for a game against the average is generally the sign of the reviews editor not matching a reviewer to a game appropriately.
EDIT: and now I just read Foolz post. So, very sorry for any redundancy of points there.
Oh yeah, HB Vade. Also, what's your mother's maiden name and you first pet's name?
Only if his first pet was called Wes, and his mother's maiden name Kerr.
Personally I'm LMAO at any game ripped to shreds that is commissioned by Capcom USA. I spent time on the Ask Capcom boards where you can talk with execs and they do and say some ridiculous shit - like not releasing Miles Edgeworth 2.
The genius who runs the outfit, Christian Svensson has commissioned flop after flop from U.S based studios.
