1up: Epic Mickey 2 Promises to Build a Better Mouse

1up said:

After the presentation, I wandered to the show floor, where, surprisingly, the Wii version of Mickey 2 stood out as the best of show.

Developer Junction Point obviously had the Wii in mind when developing Epic Mickey 2, since the paint controls feel awkward on the PS3 and 360 versions of the game. Where the Wii's Epic Mickey 2 features an aiming reticle that moves as you point the controller in various directions, this scheme poses a problem for the other consoles; the non-Wii versions of the game force the player to control their crosshairs with the right analog stick, which requires far more precision and coordination than simply pointing and shooting with the Wiimote. Controls in general felt more sluggish and unresponsive when compared to how Mickey 2 plays on the Wii, which may mark the first time Nintendo's console received a superior version of a multi-platform game; admittedly, it's too early to judge definitively this early in development, but Junction Point has a tough road to hoe in making the most basic functions of their game feel as natural as they do with a Wiimote and nunchuck setup.

So who has Move and is going to get this game? Robio?

Joystiq said:

Those HD versions of Epic Mickey 2 aren't quite as impressive as they could be, at least not yet. I'm willing to chalk performance issues up to the early state of the demos I saw, but both the Xbox 360 and PS3 builds had performance issues in spades. On Xbox, the game stuttered for a few seconds every time I got out Mickey's paintbrush. On PS3, weird color artifacts abounded, and Oswald's electricity (more on that soon) didn't connect with where I aimed it. The good news is that both look lovely, even in their current work-in-progress states, rendering all the Disneyana in rich detail and warm colors. The PlayStation 3 version, I was told, will even support the Move peripheral, for a "true" Epic Mickey experience -- which is a good thing, as aiming the paintbrush with the right analog stick is a pain.

I don't have Move, and unless it drops down to about $5 or less I won't be buying it. Vader may do it though. I'll settle for the Wii version or maybe wait for the Wii U version if it comes.  I know Spector didn't mention the Wii U as a possibility but he may just not be acknowledging it until the console gets an official release date.  Time will tell I suppose. I'm not even all that stoked to play this just yet. I enjoyed the first game, but not so much that I need to play a sequel so soon.

Xenoblade on backorder via Nintendo's store

That's a great sign. I wondered if piracy was going to kill this game's chances since last year even mainstream sites were giving people instructions on how to hack you Wii in order to play the game. I don't foresee it doing huge numbers, but hopefully it'll see around 300K in sales.I pre-ordered mine at Gamestop, and that'll more or less be my April..... that makes me wonder if there was a preorder bonus for it that I forgot about.

I read you could only buy it by pre-ordering through gamestop or nintendo.com?

According to my Gamestop you can only pre-order it through Nintendo.com and them, but Gamestop will be carrying the game in-stock for a while.

I pre=ordered mine at Gamestop too....most likely gonna hold onto the game until Nintendo Next comes out to play it....I can't even be arsed to turn my Wii on to play fucking Zelda.

It still baffles me that they won't just release this game the normal way. All they're doing is stopping any sales growth it might have had outside the die hard fans. Why do this? They've released a million games that sold worse than this will the NORMAL way....

Posting from a wi-fi spot again just to say Kid Icarus is SERIOUSLY awesome!

What say you on the controls? That seems to be the one major gripe that all reviewers share, and then ultimately how much they dislike it is where the score ends up.

The controls take a little getting used to, but they are absolutely functional. I was actually more concerned with the stability of the stand, and, I must say, it's a sexy little piece of plastic! It folds almost flat, but unfolds with a tilt to it that makes viewing the 3DS easy. There are rubber contacts on the inner part of the stand and along the section where the 3DS sits and it stays put. You can poke the touchscreen, press the buttons and hit the triggers and it just does not move. I was actually browsing and typing my post before without my hands on the system at all, only poking with the stylus. The one and only tiny issue is: the whole stand tends to shift on it's surface a little bit, if you get a little too much into the action and don't pay attention to how hard you are gripping the side of the 3DS while hitting the triggers. The actions --IS-- intense enough where you will have to make yourself focus during the white knuckle action sequences!

You need to have the ability to move Pit in one direction while aiming in the other. Apparently the fat guy at Destructoid isn't that coordinated... There's also NO problem viewing it on any surface either... that is unless you have a few chins preventing you from being able to tilt your head down at a certain angle or you can't get close enough to the surface on which it sits due to a barrel sized gut...

I'll post more serious impressions later. I can tell you right now though, the banter between Palutena and Pit is classic, the references fly and --WOW-- seeing all the bizarre and cool enemies from the original 8-bit game... PRICELESS!

I'm gonna go download my --FREE-- copy of Kid Icarus 3D classic now!

**More Later!**

That article just seemed like a typical Nintendo hate/ paint them in a bad light sort of thing. But one thing's for sure; The PC is going to leave all the new consoles in the dust anyway because none of them seem to be focusing on the Razor's Edge.

The question is whether devs will be bothered to take advantage of the extra power. They haven't really to a great degree on PC this gen. Though, consoles still look drastically worse lol.

I don't see any validity in this rumor at all. A 360 and Kinect together cannot be $100 even if they just put a cheap 20 GB harddrive on it. $150 maybe, but no way in hell $100.

I read that rumor on a different site (can't remember where). They said it wasn't an Xbox 360, but a completely different console using an ARM processor or something. Still sounds like BS, though.

RE ORC is complete shit. I am trying to find something I like but I cant. Plus it pisses me off, I dont like playing angry. I just had to stop playing, I cant be spending my only two days at home in the last two weeks playing this crap.

Lets run down a list of crap that sucks. Everything is a bullet sponge and outside of basic zombies headshots dont seem to do much. Single player is just an uninspired boring mode where you go through extremely boring environments and shoot things. They have some boss fights but those are crappy as well. You see old RE locations but most are totally unrecognizable and the majority of the game is just generic looking.  I have seen my AI partners run around in circles while shooting the air, get sucked down through the floor, one guy just stood  in a corner and refused to move, and one threw a grenade which bounced off a wall and landed on me. Leveling up system is very simplistic, all skills are very easy to unlock, guns are expensive but you can only carry one gun with you meaning you cant switch weapons for certain situations. The sound is pretty crappy, no classic monster sounds like Hunters scream.

Then I went to multiplayer to see if that can save the game and I doubt it can. Matchmaking randomly chooses a mode and then you are locked into that mode if you stay with that group. I played Hero mode where you play as classic characters. I was Claire, I got into a fight with Ada and we meleed each other for about two minutes straight, none of us died, we had an army of zombies around us. It was like an infinite animation loop. I died when a teamate came to help her. I later chased Ada around the map unloading shotgun blasts after blasts, grenades, everything I had and she would not die, wtf. When two players meet up it becomes a disaster, the two of you will start circling each other, one will try a melee and if it hits you are now stuck in crazy animations, most likely it will miss and you will continue to do circles. You have a ton of life so this weird dance lasts forever. The I did a CTF mode which plays like every CTF mode only worse than most games. The monsters on the map seem like a big distraction, maybe so you dont focus on how crappy the PvP is. I guess you can find a good class to work with, stealth camo dude worked well in CTF so maybe there is tiny hope in some strategy.

There is not much to like here.

BTW....having to play hours of Mass Effect 3's online mode to be able to get the best outcome for the game is fucking Stuuuuuuuupid.

Untrue, you dont have to do that at all to get the best ending.

Ok that's cool....so the readiness doesn't effect the game at all? WTF is the point of it then?

I can' tbelieve Capcom would release something that bad.  Wait, yeah I can.

I can't believe that they've released sooo many absolute SHIT games under the RE brand over the years, and et the main series has managed to stay relevant and AAA quality.
