Im not expecting much from next gen but it needs to be noticably different and be able to do things gameplay wise we cant do now, in terms of amount of people on screen, level of detail and interactivity. The true innovation will still come from how we play our games.
Its also time for someone to make a game so different it sparks a whole new subgenre, its been a while since we had that.
Okami HD
Someone makes an original game, everyone then copies it for the next 10 years.
How many people do you want on screen at once? I thought this gen you can already have tons of screen fodder?
I don't think level of detail will impact gameplay if you are just talking graphics quality i.e how realistic a texture looks or how well it is shadowed or lit?
Interactivity IMO depends on either some deep rooted physics engine - paired with controls and gameplay that actually use it for more than just shoot A, watch B blow up and watch the dominos fall. Otherwise I think interactivity is about how in depth the developers are willing to go in programming a game with that deep level of interactivity. And also, you do really need a control method that can take advantage of it.
Okay, question 2:
With regards to other devices not graphics related such as gyroscopic VR headsets like Sony's one - or new control methods like Smartglass - do you think they will have more of an impact on the next machines from Sony and MS then graphics will? In terms of the games we play and how we perceive them to be different?
It's a strange game to HD for me because it's inherently a very blurry game.
I felt like this playing it.
Even in HD it's still blurry and has a lot of horrible textures.
BTW this version is using the PS Move to make it play like the Wii version, will you buy Move for it? You can probably still use the controller like PS2 Okami.
Why do people keep thinking that if we increase computer power, we get better physics? That is not how it works people!
GG games like GTA still cant populate a world like it is in reality. I have yet to see a game with real traffic. Of course we wonder do we need that in a game, well it could be very impressive if there are thousands of people walking the streets of NY and every street is jam packed with cars.
Imagine getting into a shootout on a bridge that is jam packed with cars, once the shooting starts every one jumps out of their car in horror, mass panic on the bridge, people swarming everywhere and you need to chase your enemy through this insanity. That cant be done yet.
Halo 3 is one ugly game, looks last gen almost. That said its still a blast. Once the vehicles get involved and there are big open areas the gameplay starts to shine. So far its more like Halo 1 than Halo 2 so that is a plus.
Huge. The PC eclisped the current consoles about 2 years ago, which mean that's about where the next ones will be (three year old tech should be cheap enough by then). I'm looking forward to getting a PS4 at launch and a neXBOX if it can provide some good exclusives. Gears, Fable and Halo doesn't do it for me any more. Forza never did.
Wii U is just as good as 360 stories...
It's the biggest troll in the world to compare a console coming out in 2012 to one that came out in 2006.
Here are some other things that were hot in 2006: (Just to remind everyone how far we've come since 2006.
Western Digital Dual-Option Combo 250GB USB 2.0 / Firewire External Hard Drive with Built-In USB 2.0 Hub
Kingston 2 X 1GB USB 2.0 DataTraveler Flash Drive Kit
Motorola RAZR V3
PalmOne Treo 700w
March 2006, "Ever thought that Apple would make a musical iPod / Phone gadget ?
Insiders at Taiwanese phone maker BenQ say that Apple procurement executives have been talking to various Taiwanese phone makers during the past few months in an effort to cut a manufacturing deal on an iPod Phone. “An iPod phone is definitely coming,” according to BenQ executive."
I thought the Wii version of Okami looked a ton better than the PS2 game, because Ready At Dawn took out the silly blur from the PS2 game. I also thought the game was twice as long as it should have been and got boring as hell after awhile.
No really, the difference between the start of last gen and the start of this gen is huge for me, simply because when last gen started, I DID NOT HAVE A GAMING PC that could do anything the consoles could do, and then some. That's why I find myself not incredibly excited about either Xbox or Playstation, because my PC can already do anything those consoles will do and have 99% of the games they get (especially Xbox) so what is there to be excited about? How many must have exclusive system seller games are these machines really going to have?
I'm excited for the Wii U because its a powerful Nintendo console that will have a ton of exclusive games, and for everything else there is my PC.
Having a powerful PC is basically like already HAVING a next-gen console. So yeah, Sony and Microsoft are going to have to give me a reason to care beyond lesser than my PC graphics and built in Kinect.
It was a prettier more Hi Res version of Xbox 1 Halo. With the money they had behind that game, you'd think they would have pushed 360 graphics to the limits with it.
Halo 3 was way better than Halo 2. But still not as good as ODST or Reach (or Combat Evolved).
That is all.
