Oh he's not leaving the industry. He'll take a year off and then open up his own studio and make mobile games like everyone else.
In other news, is anyone else bothered that Mark Discordia is 55 years old? Yikes.... where has the time gone?
With him leaving it makes me wonder about their new IP for next gen. The Bladerunner-esque thing they are demoing the next Unreal Engine on. From all the interviews I read of his he was pivotal in the direction of Gears, not just a general manager type.
I would love to know more about his input on Unreal Tournment if anyone has any stories or interviews that come to mind.
He was also the first person I heard that postulated that during this generation we'd see the death of the "middle" games (that the market would gravitate to nothing but small indy and AAA, which has since become conventional wisdom.
