That Iwata NOA CEO article got me all wet...until I realised that Reggie was still there. NOA needs new leadership...they are FAR too conservative.

The Wii U is a great console, much much better than the original Wii. If people don't buy it well, people are fools. Hopefully once a few REALLY big titles come out the sales will jump. It does need a major exclusive, a Super Mario level title. But hey, hopefully the bad numbers make Nintendo kick it into high gear with the development.

Well there are two ways to look at that. From a hardware perspective in that yes the Wii U is absolutely a better system than Wii. And I am not just talking graphics, it's just far more well made.

But then there is the other way too look at it in that the Wii U does nothing that special. The Wii was a far more interesting idea, an idea that caught on like wildfire. It was the perfect idea at the right moment at the right price with the right launch game. The Wii U is the opposite. The pad isn't anything new, the price is way too high for basically a current gen system, the games are obviously not there. Who is this marketed to cause the casuals probably wont get a wii U. Anyone looking for a new primary console won't be getting the Wii U as it will have horrible 3rd party support and in a year or two will be left in the dust by the new consoles. The Wii U is basically just for Nintendo fans.

The Wii should have been half Wii U, HD, better graphics, better online. The Wii would have been the best selling console of all time if so.

No way. No HD was a huge advantage price-wise; it allowed bandwagoners to put down a little cash to become part of the trend. If it cost more, the bandwagoners would have been less interested in putting down cash for it. An HD update later on might have worked, but unless it upscaled old games then it might have been pointless.
