I just saw that Creny said they went against the auto delete. So it stays installed just like PS3 and you choose when to delete. Both killzone and NBA are 50G each...

This:

"They decided against it, figuring that gamers would never want to feel "blindsided" and would prefer to make their data management decisions manually."

To me is a red flag. Say the system did auto overwrite the cache and it was in the background, hence you wouldn't notice, that can't be true otherwise they wouldn't be saying that people could feel blindsided when the data is deleted. There must be a significant impact if you delete a cache and want to then go back to the game. Given the size of all these installs it migjt get like cleaning the Wii fridge before they let you run games off sd cards.

The disc installation is required on PS4 because the console is not designed to read games off of discs. It's not a PlayStation issue. It's a physics issue. The machine may have a Blu-Ray drive that's about three times faster than the PS3 with about six times as much memory, but it's still more expedient for it to read data from its own hard drive. Cerny said his team had heard too many complaints from current-gen developers about having to wait to load in new levels of games. Putting the data on the readily-accessible hard drive alleviates that. P

Not surprisingly, Microsoft's Xbox One requires installation from Blu-Ray, too, and only runs games off the hard drive.P

If a PS4 user decides to download a game, they will have to wait longer to play. Cerny couldn't provide as narrow an estimate on how long a player who decided to download Knack would have to wait. That depends in large part on a user's Internet connection speed. Ideally, he said, they wouldn't have to wait more than an hour before beginning to play the partially downloaded games. Other games may be set up differently, allowing users to start playing them sooner or requiring them to wait longer. With these kinds of download speeds and requirements, players may want to queue their PS4 downloads long before they want to start gaming or download in the background while doing something else. Or just drive to the store and get a disc.

Ugh.

Nah i think it would take a minute or two if you lost the install, for some that is bothersome. Unless the install data is still tied with all the patches and DLC like the PS3. That would be horrible, every time you delete it and reinstall you would have to download everything all over again.

A minute or two to reinstall 37-50gb? Sure it may start and let you play a little while you got back into the middle of a game while it background caches. But then if you stop while the data is transferring, switch games and then a process starts there and then the same thing for another game?

So basically the massive RAM allows for larger textures and larger data sizes means it's physically impossible to run games off disc anymore without constantly writing to hard drives.

The new Professor Layton says this on the box "Join Professor Layton one last time ... "

Is this the last game in the series?  I'd be sad if so (even though I haven't played the last two yet).  It's the sixth one being released in the west.  Have there been any more in Japan?

Yes the Azran Legacy or whatever its called will be the final game in the Layton series as it exists now. That's not necessarily a bad thing in my book. I've played every game in the series and after the Miracle Mask I have to admit the series has just about run its course.

It will be continued in another way though. Level-5 is developing a game called The Layton 7 (for mobile and 3DS I think). Professor Layton won't be in it but somehow the 7 characters in the game are connected to him.

Thanks Robio.  I understand, I guess I will probably be feeling the same way by the time I finish the remaining three.  And it's always better to retire an IP before it gets run completely to the ground.

Ugh.

So basically they're saying that the drive is too slow, and they need the higher speeds of the HDD?  Then where does this leave GTAV?  It's streaming both from the disc, and from the HDD.  Does this mean that possible PS4, X0 versions will have more pop-in then the current-gen versions?

It's not a big deal GG, this is how it's been with PS3 for years.  Every game either wants to install or just automatically does.  When you finish the game, if you need the space you delete the game data (your saves are kept seperately).

Just came home from GameStop with a DualShock 4 and Killzone: Shadow Fall. I bought them to have something to play on the PS4...

...but a little voice inside my head keeps on asking me: "Why exactly am I picking this console up now? Should I cancel? Should I cancel?"
