The internet is predictably freaking out but there is a context to all this. Metro LL (MLL) was announced for U very early but never worked on or developed and cancelled very soon after because they couldn't manage making another version. Back then, that early they might have looked at the exotic out of order CPU and decided it was weak. The DSP was not unlocked at that time, this was waaaaaaaaaaay before that, back when the SDK optimisations were weak too. The coding pipeline has been massively improved since then.
To quote Wii U dev Shinen:
"DSPs in current hardware are mainly used to take tasks away from the CPU. As we take audio in our games very seriously we were happy to see that the DSP can handle all the tasks we throw at it. We use it for 3D audio, lowpass filtering and many other things."
Why is this important? Well to quote a Microsoft Engineer:
"On the XBox 360, audio mixing for a normal game can use as much as two full hardware threads, 1/3 of the CPU dedicated to audio. That's not even considering complex games like car racers, where each vehicle can have dozens of voices and complex filters. That's hugely wasteful in terms of cost. A general purpose CPU is just not optimised for audio processing.
The difference is that a CPU core costs you dollars, and a DSP core costs you pennies. That's why almost all mobile architectures have dedicated audio silicon. By far the most popular request my team gets from game devs is "Make audio cheaper!". Just running a single good reverb will completely blow the L1 and L2 cache, and require ridiculous amounts of memory bandwidth. We support 320 simultaneous voices on the 360 (that's how many the XMA hardware will decode at a time). AAA games use all of them. Even plants vs zombies uses over 100 and most of a core, _just for audio_. If we were to have the choice of adding a full core to the 360 or a DSP that can handle the same load. We'd probably choose the DSP, since it would be vastly cheaper in BOM and essentially give devs an extra 50% CPU for game logic."
Also remember that Wii U has a GP-GPU general purpose which is supposed to take on tasks normally associated with the CPU. So yeah if someone was purely looking at the U CPU then likely would come to the conclusion that it was weaker, but they are not looking at the overall balance of the system.
Ok I finally got mine today, no games besides NL tomorrow I get 3 games. Downloading the horrible slow update now, I have a 300 MBPS wireless N router blazing fast on 360 and PS3, Vita but this is a snail on Nintendo they have horrible servers. I will download a game or two from the E shop I hope it's faster. Gotta get Nano. and Rayman demo. How you guys liking yours today?
I can't wait to hear what you think.
Bioware is asking us if the next Mass Effect shoudl be a prequel or a sequel.
How about YOU GUYS MAKE THE GAME? We'll play it when you are done.
I wish they would do an updated Star Wars RPG!!!
Cool DOTA2 game last night Yoda! I still can't believe how much better were we in paper, but nevertheless we lost. I think maybe the top lane costed us the whole game.
I CAN'T BELIEVE I FOUND ANNO 1404 GOLD IN AMAZON FOR A FIVER! I installed it yesterday and it runs without issue.
I never like it when developers solicit the audience for ideas. It's never a good sign, and the results end up even worse.
Nano Assault Neo is a great shooter! My first downloaded Nintendo network game! NNID: chibear.
The availability of Wii U's and being unable to snag one makes me a saaad panda.
^Back in the old days you could rent consoles from Blockbuster etc...
Does anywhere do that any more?
They restocked at a bunch of places you should go out tonight and look if you really want one!
No I do remember it, it was cool. I sold a bunch of extra systems to video and game stores just for renting, there were even special rental cases.
Yeah I have a pristine 3DO with a specially made hard-case. I don't think it was ever used, as it had all the plastic still on it etc... I got the impression from the laminated card inside it was either for rental from a store or maybe something a hotel would have had as a service.
They don't do that anymore?
So I thought only people on your friends list could show up in zombi u? Twice now I've had corpses show up of people who I don't know...but I was happy to take their shit.
Important to note about Sonic Transformed Wii U. From the Gamespot Review:

"Here's where the problems with the Wii U version begin to surface. As of the game's launch, Boost Race events are broken to the point where they are impossible to complete. These events require you to boost as often as possible through a set number of checkpoints, but on the Wii U, these races are missing checkpoints altogether. You can skip these events and move forward by failing on the easiest difficulty multiple times and choosing "skip," but it's a frustrating complication that prevents 100 percent completion of the game. It seems a day-one game patch is responsible for this bug, since it didn't appear before the Wii U's online service was on, but the game will patch automatically if your system is online, which may leave you with a broken experience.
The problems don't end there, however. Online play is limited to 10-player Race and Battle modes--but Battle mode simply does not work as intended. On one stage, players spawn in the middle of space and fall to their deaths until you quit or the game ends. On most others, players spawn practically on top of each other, which is a particular problem in the Wii U's inclusive "party" modes, in which the GamePad player wins every time by default. Only one stage, Creepy Courtyard, spawns players in correctly, but even that stage won't work for the exclusive Super Monkey Ball mode, which never spawns the bananas that non-GamePad players are supposed to collect. Fortunately, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed fares better when you play cooperatively. Friends can join you in all game modes locally, even World Tour and Grand Prix. So you are never forced to play alone if you don't want to, provided you have at least one friend to share your couch.
If it weren't for these problems, the Wii U version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed would be as good as, if not better than, the other versions. The game can be played entirely on the GamePad screen (though the ability to do so by swiping down on the touch screen isn't even mentioned in the manual), and the fundamental mechanics of the game are sound. Normally, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is a joy to both play and look at. It's just unfortunate that this version is so broken. If it were fixed, it would be a wonderful choice for kart racing fans looking for ways to enjoy their new Wii U."

Maybe it still will be fixed! Nano Assault Neo rocks!
