Lots of info on why the E3 showing was why it was and a promise to keep supplying Wii U with software here:
Nintendo's 2015 share holders - event summary
Even when Nintendo platforms do have Metroid games, those games don't sell particularly well. Look at the Wii install base compared to GC and Prime 3 still couldn't touch Prime 1 sales.
Reviewers opinion of the Prime games have dwindled for its sequels, even when the games are great. Sadly as I think they are all awesome. If Prime 2 and 3 couldn't acheive the best game ever made moniker, I don't see how Retro could make that push for that title in a 4th game. Maybe they have ideas I don't? I like their ideas for Prime 2 and 3, but reviewers seemed to have cooled off after Prime 1.
I think Sakamoto is 1st in charge of the franchise and he decided to do Other M which must of shunted Retro off the project. And we all seem to have forgotten about Other M, well I did until I searched up the sales, it got lower sales than all the prime games and the worst critical reception despite being a very good game IMO. That must have factored into things, then Nintendo looked at Retro and saw the over 6 million sales for DKCR.
Anyhow forgetting about Metroid, the Animal Crossing team, instead of making the next title are doing those 2 spin offs - in an interview today they say they will get working on the next proper AC game after these two douchebag spin offs. *facepalm*
I think you need to make the distinction between AAA mega-budget-Dudebro blockbusters and hardcore games. Fire Emblem is a hardcore game, Advance Wars is a hardcore game. So is Paper Mario and the Mario platormers.
What you mean is AAA blockbusters that can play well to the supposedly mature dudebro graphics crowd. Games that "look" cool.
I agree with the 2 above posts.
Anyone looking forward to the Swindle? I haven't played any procedurally generated games yet myself, but I like the concept of this game. Hopefully it'll arrive on WiiU soon and at a reasonable price.
I have been thinking the same.
My tennis elbow has improved considerably but I'm still not able to hold the 3DS in my hands (or the Upad). I was largely a handheld gamer for the last several years and that seems to have been taken from me (at least for the time being). And I haven't switched on the WiiU at all since coming back from Israel. Not even to play Mario Kart. Maybe once Yoshi arrives, maybe ... if I'm still in the country (I hope not to be though I haven't made any plans to travel anywhere yet).
It's kind of funny, it sounds like we're both coming to the end of the road (at least of one road) with gaming but from entirely opposite directions. Sounds like you're going through the best period of your life and that you are much too happy and too busy with more important things to find time for gaming! Which is wonderful!! I, on the other hand, am going through one of my longest and deepest lows and most of the time I'm too depressed to eat or put a record to listen to, let alone to pick up a controller.

Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
My thoughts are with you, Bugs. My advice? Book that trip ASAP.
Definitely! I never saw Metroid as appealing to the Madden, CoD crowd and like I mentioned, it's not a big seller. I just think Prime was something definitely needed for the U, but that's not going to happen. As for the other hardcore games that you mentioned? How many are on the U or even announced? One Mario platformer and a rumored Paper Mario?
Thank you buddy! I will do that as soon as I have somewhere to go. Don't want to travel for the sake of travelling. Not this time.

South Carolina?
Who knows. I may have to come see the State Capitol again once you guys change the flag!!
You do remember that Charleston is one of the most beautiful and magical cities I have ever been to. Even though I loved Savannah even more
___

I hope it's changed soon. Should've been done years ago. Ni don't blame you for liking Savannah, it's beautiful too!
Whoa, Gay marriage is now legal in every state. Go, SCOTUS!

Splatoon update nerfs Kraken
I liked the Kraken, even if I never used it. You can actually shoot them when in Kraken form.
Well, I didn't mention many, but those are Nintendo staples that appear on most of their systems and Wii U has a good number of hardcore games, both Nintendo and LOL third party. Splatoon is a hardcore game, very much a competitive shooter, but it's not dripping with some cool sci fi environment or butch men with army fatigues and drug dealers. I don't see Mario Kart as a casual game but the lines between what is casual or not seems to change over the years. It used to describe yearly Madden buyers.
I want Metroid as much as the next man, and F-Zero and a proper hardcore Starfox which would basically be like Rogue Squadron. But if I were in the sales department like where that Fire Emblem quote came from, yes I would look at DKCR 6 million sales and Metroid Other M at 1 million and come to the conclusion that there are more people who want DK then there are people who want Metroid. It's sad and depressing yes, but a reality.
Nintendo seems to want to spin off franchises instead of just making new franchises or using ones that have long left dormant. The spin offs just annoy most people too.
I think from what you're saying, apart from Metroid only really Xenoblade and Zelda are games which could easily fit onto Xbox and Playstation without question. Wii U needs more of these sorts of games and sadly they are not coming from 3rd parties and Nintendo itself usually doesn't do them. Only Retro and Monolithsoft? EAD could do a new franchise, but then that would delay the next Zelda. So they outsource Starfox and F-Zero and sometimes its good and sometimes it's not.
So to elaborate on this, we assumed Nintendo was moving onto NX because of the lack of games at E3, but in the shareholder meeting they say:
Iwata: We want to correct the lack of satisfaction with E3 streams, but as a whole, reactions weren't all bad. As Miyamoto said regarding short-term E3 announcements, we decide this on a yearly basis. We talk about future titles when needed. There are years when products are more finished and we can communicate their appeal. That may explain the difference this year..
Q7: As a game fan, I'm worried about the split between the NX and Wii U.
Iwata: We can't talk about the NX. If we do, competitors may take our ideas and customers won't be surprised. This would not be beneficial for the company or its shareholders. The NX is new hardware, and will start from 0. However, the 3DS and Wii U have install bases. Immediately cutting off SW for previous HW upon the release of a new machine is inefficient. We will continue making 3DS/Wii U SW while preparing for the NX. We are prioritizing satisfying customers who purchased the Wii U.
I don't want a Skyrim 2. I want a Morrowind remake with Skyrim engine and mod options, ENB stuff, the works. The same game, same quests, same art direction, only in the Skyrim engine.
What happened to our beloved logo? Is it national rainbow day or something? Or is it because it's Frigay?
Gay marriage approved in America day. Nice one Yoda.
Well done, Yoda! And happy Frigay, everyone!
